We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
Well - we are finally here for a special WTF. Number 69.
I guess there should be a theme.
1. Youth Today
I am guessing some people have heard this story from Australia in the last few days, but it is pretty horrible. A 16 year old girl was choked and died, but instead of being another instance of domestic violence, it was consensual. I don't know about your sexual experiences as a 16 year old, but there wasn't even light choking back in my day. It is pretty incredible these days, where there are pre-teens already exhibiting preferences and fetishes, without ever having physical experience.
Of course, the government reaction to this is to "ban choking porn" but really, that is just going to make everyone want to choke a bit more. The brain doesn't understand negatives, so when it hears "don't do this" all it translates is do this. This is a big part of why telling a smoker not to smoke is a losing strategy - it just reminds them to smoke.
The boyfriend must be a mess.
2. Immersion Treatment
Another story from Australia is where a college law professor is fighting to keep his job after taking his students to Paris for a cultural immersion trip. On the trip he apparently made "suggestive" comments and kissed a student on the cheek for "three seconds" leaving her shocked and uncomfortable.
These people are all adults.
Rather than saying, "hey buddy, that's not on" - three students have taken him to court to get him fired. This is the world we now live in. People can't sort their own shit out and not only look for authority to deal with it, but also do it for publicity. Sexual harassment is never cool, but neither is feigning ignorance and powerlessness.
Grow the fuck up.
Also, kissing on the cheek is part of the culture in Paris.
3. That's Ick
Where are all the nice men these days?
Good question. Though, I don't think any can exist, because no matter what a man is actually like, he will do something that will give any woman that is interested in him "the ick". It might be the shirt he wears that day, or as according to an actress this week, the way he chased his dog that escaped the leash. Maybe he runs for a closing subway door, or has his mouth open while concentrating. Or maybe he just doesn't wear stylish enough clothing that can be broadcast to strangers on Instagram. Whatever it is, "the ick" is going to ruin any relationship before any relationship can start.
The real question is:
Where are all the nice women these days?
Perhaps people need to sort out their commitment issues.
And take a good look at themselves in the mirror.
Women want a bad boy who is only good for her.
Men want a good girl who is only bad for him.
