Seeing it all

Imagine that all you can see,
all that was once and will ever be.
A life abroad and a life undone,
battles won and lost and life alone.
Would you want to know where it'd go
the winding paths, the ebbs and flow.
Would it bring peace to uncertain curse
or would the knowing be far worse.
The anticipation of what may pass,
lost in the void of discovered lasts.
We want to know so we can take,
to predict the outcome at the break.

I wonder if we were able to see the future, would it bring us comfort, or increased suffering? Would the magic of uncertainty, the beauty of wonder be lost, replaced by the fear of knowing? We want to be able to predict tomorrow to take advantage, to make gains, but the only reason tomorrow has value is because of the uncertainty, as we do not know what it will bring, new thoughts, new ideas, new creations, new opportunities.

If we knew what tomorrow held, would hope be lost?

After all, hope is the belief that there is more than one possible outcome, that there is chance involved. If the possibility of different is taken away, what is left to aim for? I think that part of our self-actualization is the belief that we are able to improve our lot in life and even if it is fate, belief is enough to keep us driving on, keep us pushing for something more - whatever that should be.

Whatever that should be.

Do you know? What propels you forward in this life - when you wake up in the morning, what is your purpose and at the end of the day, what reasons do you recall for having done the things you did? Were they what you planned, did you fulfill the purpose you set out to accomplish for the day?

What was today's plan?
