As forecast, it rained.
But it is okay, because instead of being outside, we spent the day mostly inside in some kind of activity park for kids, with a swim in between. We all had a go at doing different things and what it taught us all is that my wife and I are out of shape. However, I did get one comment of encouragement from Smallsteps.
Daddy, you still have some sport in you.
But I didn't feel much sport in this old body.
But I am feeling it in my body that I did something. Though, swinging on these rings was not something I did well. I remember being a monkey like my daughter, and in my head I still think I can do a lot of things - until I actually try them. I rolled about two meters on a skateboard and knew I shouldn't go further. It was on the edge of a skate ramp that thirty years ago, I would have dropped into on a board, or on rollerblades.
Time ravages all things.
But Smallsteps still has time on her side to enjoy swinging from the rings and jumping around, doing cartwheels and falling without things cracking and aching for days afterward. I did a cartwheel on the grass yesterday, which my wife filmed (you can't see) because she thought I was going to get hurt, which she would have found hilarious considering the situation. But, I managed it with grace and poise.
Well... neither of those things, but I did manage it without getting hurt.
We are off from here tomorrow after breakfast and perhaps a last swim, to continue onto the next destination on our mini holiday, which is staying with friends for a couple nights. They have a couple kids, so Smallsteps will have someone to play with, but they are boys, and she thinks boys play to crazy.
But first to finish the night, we are going to see a movie together at a tiny cinema. I don't even know what we are seeing, but it is a kids movie and it will be in English, so at least I will understand what is going on in it. Though, having a nap might do my body better.
