We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 76: Hearts and Minds
1. To Catch a Markle
Meghan Markle is often in the news and being ridiculed, so perhaps she will feel better now that the spotlight is off her for a bit and on her father instead. Apparently, he is a pedo turned in by his own son, who found boxes of child abuse material at his home in the Philippines. But what is perhaps more newsworthy is that the allegations have been around since 2018 and no one investigated.
I think there is a pretty easy way to catch a lot of pedos.
Investigate all white men who regularly visit or move to the Philippines, Indonesia or Thailand.
2. State of Lockdown
Victoria, the Australian lockdown state during Covid, spent almost 40 billion on its largely ineffective response. That is around 5,714 dollars for every man, woman, child and the many other genders in the state of 7 million people. hundreds of millions went to high risk and illegible businesses that have been written off. Almost a billion dollars of unused PPE equipment was thrown away since 2003. This amount is a lot, but it is likely dwarfed by the impact the lockdowns had on small businesses, families and individuals during this period. This means it is a double, triple, quadruple hit - because people were fucked over by the government using their own tax money.
And since it is on debt, the bill keeps growing.
3. Doggy Style
If you haven't tuned in yet to Finnish television, here is something for you. The state broadcaster YLE has brought back "Pentulive" (Puppylive), which is a livestream of puppies from their birth through to when they leave the home for their new families. It has become a bit of a phenomena with 10 million people tuning in to watch them sleep 20 hours a day and broadcasting rights and the model have been bought by other countries.
It is far better than doomscrolling the shit people usually consume.
