Yes it is a bell curve, public discourse too - except it is inverted, with more heading toward the extremes and emptying the middle.

Uni was a certificate - but I went to uni in Cairns, where I lived, so it was a bit different perhaps. I was also working full time whilst at uni - so it wasn't quite the "party experience" :D
