The top rung of my ladder taken off today, as the first of my HIVE buybacks went through after selling a little at the spike. I was well asleep while it happened, but had a ladder running up and even though I was able to catch a sell near the 1.57 top (it went at 1.53), my average sell price was 1.20 overall. This means that if I bought everything back at current price, I will have about 50% more tokens than what I sold on the spike. That is not too bad for a couple days turn around and would be a significant amount of tokenized value captured.
Big Gain, Much Wow
But, these events are rare, so this type of potential isn't an every day occurrence, but moving into a bull market, they are more common than normal, as random tokens pop 50% all over the place. However, unless holding significant amount of these tokens and being set up for the sell, it is not going to do make large gains. Percentages are great, but volume matters too.
But, there are many other ways to capture value without trading, but pretty much all of them are going to take an investment of some kind. Even the "free" rewards from posting take time and effort in order to earn consistently and, also being able to navigate the Hive marketplace adequately, including how to behave in the community. People don't like the idea of having to behave a certain way in order to earn, but most of those people must be unemployed or living off passive income granted them by their parents - or the government. I always find it interesting when people who are the most outspoken against the various tyrannies of government, are at the same time taking a social security payment.
No move is instantaneous
While I do think that the governments are not doing a great job, I believe that for there to be better, it is going to require change and expecting the change to come from the masters who benefit from the way things are, is ludicrous. So, it means taking matters into one's own hands, but it is definitely not an instant process. While I do think there will be improvement, I don't suspect significant strides to be made within my lifetime, but I think my daughter will benefit within hers.
For now, it is about building the pathways to that future so that there is the potential for more people to take the journey. Cutting through the jungle is never easy, but eventually many are able to take the trip along the narrow paths that are built into the highways that can be driven, or the runaways for flights to land.
As I have said a couple times over the last few days in response to comments, people should be looking to earn on Hive and it isn't some base trait that is shameful, because this is what has to happen to change the economy as we know it. We have to not only generate value here, but we have to capture the value that is empowering the current global economy and show that there are other ways for it to be done.
I used to be embarrassed by the support I get, but I also know that I have earned it by adding value as well as paid for it in many ways. Nothing comes for free in this world. The other thing I know is that I have used the platform I have been able to develop here to try and help others do the same in various ways and for those who have found followed and stuck to the path have almost invariably generated a significant chunk of value for themselves and, helped others too.
Not only this, using what they have gained, they have also been able to empower other applications and communities on the blockchain. When I started here, the only way to get rewarded was to get the attention of whales and often, there was a lot of issues around this, including the behavior of some of the whales or those who controlled whale stake. However, that isn't the case now, as while on Hive whale stake is very important, it isn't the only source of value financial value on the blockchain now - there are many.
Losing the Center
@taskmaster4450 used to do a regular post about "whales losing their power" but it would only really look at the number of Hive whales and their stake, because that was what was important at the time. Yes, during the bear market especially, the dolphins and orcas on this platform grew significantly as people were able to buy in, but there is more to it than that. For example, how many LEO whales are there giving significant amounts of value, Splinter Talk whales, Oneup and soon,
@threespeak LARYNX whales when they drop in three months time to all HIVE holders, including liquids. My point is that just form a reward perspective, there is a massive amount of value floating about Hive, even if the token drops 50% in a few days.
On top of this, there is Splinterlands whales who hold lots of NFT assets and the various tokens to do with the game, like DEC SPS. For example, I am not a large Splinterlands holder, but I am currently earning more from just the SPS drop each day than I am from my posting rewards and, I don't have to do really anything for it - other than risk my capital investment. But, I am not gaining from that gain, because I am staking into the game further to get vouchers (another token with value to be issued starting in 9 days) so that I can at least get a few presale packs of cards and maybe, score myself a promo card.
But, I am also holding CUB, which isn't even on the Hive blockchain, but I consider to be part of the Hive ecosystem and is also affecting the dynamics on the chain, considering the community overlap, with a lot of large HIVE holders being heavily involved there. This is giving a daily yield too, which I use to either roll back in or to move to support other projects.
Trade me, Trade You
My point is that in order for crypto to become an industry, it has to generate tradeable value and that means that people should be looking to earn. But more than that, it has to develop itself to encourage that value to stay in the ecosystem, rather than moving out and back into the legacy system it is trying to replace. Sure, initially this is going to happen a lot, but a people start to realize the value of blockchain coupled with tokenization, the leaky ship gaps will start to close across all decent projects and as the tide comes in, all boats will rise.
Reward value on Hive is critical at this point of the Hive game on the Hive layer, because it allows for value to be generated that can be used to flesh out the community even further. Pretty much none of the successful communities here would have had much of a chance, if it wasn't for Hive, including Splinterlands, which is worth a fair bit more than Hive, but still benefits heavily from the community here. The reason is that because of the way Hive was able to capture and generate value over the years, these communities were able to have a market to sell their ideas to and as they have grown to add more value to the ecosystem, it binds the community ever more tightly to the blockchain, even while it spreads out further. As more applications build to do similar, all applications will do better as each will benefit from the growing value of the greater community, much like all businesses within a nation benefit from a healthy economy.
Do Better, Replace Worse
And that is what we are looking to do here, isn't it? Build a healthy economy. But it isn't just on Hive, it is across thousands of blockchains that will chip away at the legacy economy, slowly replacing it a bit at a time, until it is no longer required at all, as no one is using it. It is insane that so few people really see the potential of what is going on here and even more insane that those who want a better economic outcome, aren't willing to take a slice of ownership of what is going to give the best chance of getting there.
But, all I can do is do what I do and present what I do in the hope that people will at least consider what all of this means in total, rather than focusing on a tiny sliver and thinking they understand what is really going on.
All for Reward
As I said in this post about rewards and conditioning, we all act on incentive. I am incentivized to produce content for Hive and I do the best I can in order to make it valuable in order to earn a reward. But, I earn a reward (yield) as a liquidity provider across various pools on CUB Finance. I earn a reward for buying and holding Splinterlands assets, through airdrops and rentals to players who can't afford to buy the assets outright. I earn a reward for holding HIVE through interest and curation. I earn a reward for supporting the economy and as such, other people get rewarded too.
This is the way a healthy economy functions - on reward. It isn't something dirty, it is the encouragement to work to add value and collaborate to do what can't be done alone. A person surviving alone in the forest may have no need for money, but they are also unable to build a car, innovate the energy industry or explore the depths of the ocean or space, because they need other people to achieve those kinds of goals. An economy ties us together economically, but all it really does is marks our social interaction and allows for us to value what each of us does through offering rewards for activity.
The problem with the current economic conditions is that the majority of rewards are not only out of reach of the majority of people, but a tiny minority direct where and what has value, and they are able to manipulate the marketplace to such a degree, that they can always reward themselves over others, with no way for the unrewarded to have a say at all.
Widening the Path
As said, while it is still very far from perfect, an economy is a process and is dynamically changing all of the time. As we are looking to replace one that is fundamentally broken, we need to ensure that we aren't going to make the same mistakes and that is giving up ownership and leaving all the decisions up to others. This doesn't mean we have to own a piece of everything, but we do have to own something that is useful and in demand by the community. It might be stake on Hive for votes or Resource Credits, assets on Splinterlands, or stake in a liquidity pool for people to leverage - but something at the very least.
One of the biggest problems with the economy now is, very few of us own enough of it or are able to add enough value to it, to keep it functioning in a way that the majority benefit. so as a result, the majority get crushed and believe this is the way it has to be.
There are other ways. Widen them.
