I am trying to take it pretty easy at the moment as there has been so much going on that I think it is good to get a little rest, although it really isn't going to plan. There is just far too much to do and yeaterday we found out that we might need to open up part of the house to see if there is moisture as well as do some other work - just in case. The "just in case" aspects of this are going to run into the several thousands and have not been accounted for in our budget at all.
Rather than rest, I guess it is best to just get on with it all, instead of putting it off to another day, week or lifetime. Well, I think we only have one life, so I better do what I can with the one I have.
The task list for me now is to open up the inner walls to expose the attics so that we can start fleshing out the interior upstairs. This is a good area for me to work in as while it is physical, it is largely mindless demolition. Though I am physically still feeling the affects of my treatment the other day and there hasn't been much sleep this week, so I am not really keen to get started. I am counting on the "starting is the hardest part" scenario and hoping that once I get going, I will fall into a type of flow rhythm that keeps me moving. One foot in front other - repeat.
I have also been keeping an eye on the markets as more now than ever before, I am considering uasing some of it to cover some of the unexpected expenditures on the house, but I am still not keen to start down that path at all - especially at this point in the market. I feel that we aren't "that far" away from a proper run and I don't want to sell anything this far short.
I think this is what happens though, the unexpected is what has continually chipped away at life, even when prepared as I never seem prepared enough for what is to come. For example, my wife and I did our due diligence before having a child, we put money aside before, we prepped and planned, but, it was never going to be enough for the events that unfolded. The house concerns in emotional comparison don't really compare to those times at all - we survived that, we are well conditioned to survive this.
But, survival isn't really what I call living either, it is just life. At some point, the survival aspect of life has to evolve into a point where life is worth living and I don't just mean that for me personally, but all of us. When we look around the world and see the conditions that so many have, I don't think many of us would choose these conditions for ourselves and definitely not for those we love. No child chooses their life - so the conditions we are creating are an imposition on the lives that are to come.
We all want better, but what is the lowest limit, what are the highest? There seems to be no ceiling, but at least there must be a floor - but what does raising standards of living mean in context of quality of life? How is it that in many of the places where standard of living is high, depression is also? Would we want to be born into a life where standard of living is high, but we will be depressed, where we will feel that we are surviving, but not living?
My hope is that in the coming years and generations to follow, a greater sense of responsibility is felt toward the community at a global level, so people will be far more collaborative and willing to work toward the better at a macro level. For a lot of the issues we face, require a concerted effort, not from the few, but the many. I am not hopeful of seeing any major inroads during my lifetime, but I am hoping that at least there will be some movement down the path, perhaps some breakthroughs along the way that collect people together and give some direction to next steps. I see crypto and blockchains owned by us as one branch of the betterment movement, and it will fractal further to create more.
Well, perhaps after I demolish some stuff to create the space to create anew, I will be in a better frame of mind and have more to say - let's see what breaking stuff can do for rebuilding a broken mind.
When we look at the world in which we live we should probably take the position that we are all in this together - there is nowhere to go but here. Maybe then we would work as a community.
