Before I go and take a "disco nap" (a nap before going out to party), I thought I would show a little bit of color from the garden and the cutest helper. It is the time of year when all the leaves are starting to fall rapidly from the trees and for the first time in my life in Finland, I have to rake them up, otherwise the grass gets crappy as they rot.
We don't have that many trees, but with a pear, apple, a couple maples and several birch, there is more than enough to make a mess. I had a little leaf blower aid to group them into rough mounds, but it took Smallsteps and I another hour and a half to collect them into garbage sacks, since we don't have a suitable place for a compost yet - next year.
What was pretty cool was that for most of that time, Smallsteps helped, like actually helped, which is a bit of a gardening milestone, as previously it was more busy-work. It isn't like she did any real heavy lifting, but she was enthusiastically stuffing the leaves into the bags, whilst talking through how good she was at it. She probably saved me an extra 20 minutes if I had done it by myself and, we had a lot of fun in the process.
We have always had a lot of fun when together though as we tend to clown around and do and say silly things together. Unless in a bad mood, she is awesome to go shopping with as her commentary about things and people is hilarious, as she gives a lot of insights into her observations and like most kids, asks a lot of questions.
I was surprised, she lasted almost an hour before she started to complain about it, but she also was keen to finish what she had started, so stuck with it til near the end, where she left to her grandparent's place for the night. She has happily spent a fair amount of time there this week, as we have been staying there and they have been taking care of her some afternoons after daycare, as the house has been getting a little more work done.
Speaking of work, I was meant to do some painting today, but the moving of my friend took a little longer than I expected to stay, as there wasn't a lot of space available for the furniture, which meant doing an extra trip or two. He had wanted to get a van, but was outvoted and instead they had a small garden trailer to move it all. We ended up moving a lot of stuff in cars too. What was nice is that they were organized to move - as once or twice in the past I have helped people who decided that pre-packing wasn't necessary. That is annoying.
I haven't spent much time with this colleague outside of work, just a group dinner once when I first started there about two years ago. He is a nice guy, technically capable (not a coder) and interested in all kinds of things, including getting into Bitcoin recently. We were talking about Patreon today briefly and I said I will show him how Hive works and various aspects of "tipping" as well as distributed community capabilities and things like micropayments. I don't think he would post, but I can see him reading a lot here from the technical and economic standpoints - based on his interests. He might also get into the gaming a bit too.
I think that I am going to start onboarding consumers from now on, rather than people who might be looking to earn from posting or creatives. It is not that I won't introduce creatives too, but I want them to be more opt-in to the posting and make the decision alone, so bringing them in through the consumer gateway gives them options and moves their expectations away from earning. Consumption is an easier sell, though the hurdle is the finding what to consume and who is worth spending the time on. This will change in time however.
Right, I think it is time for the disco nap now, as I am fading fast and it is only about an hour and a half until we should be over at the neighbors to start eating and drinking. I am hoping to take it pretty easy on one of those, but I am not sure which it will be yet ;D
