Wedding day (not ours) and the hair is getting the final passover before heading home to get dressed and then off to the church. It is an endless parade of things to do - that don't really matter, but makes people feel better about themselves.

Though it is interesting that many people say that "how we look doesn't matter" yet, at occasions like a wedding, it is obviously bullshit. How we look matters a great deal, even if we don't care about how we look to others, as it changes how we feel about ourselves.

It is the same with what we wear, because I can guarantee that at the wedding, there will be no one wearing their crappiest pair of underwear, even if they know no one is going to see it - or wants to.

What is an interesting bit of potential trivia, is that if everyone invited to the wedding took what they have spent on getting ready for the wedding and instead gave it to the couple as cash, the young couple would be able to buy an apartment and have zero mortgage. What a difference in a lifetime that would make, eh?

not as romantic though!

I don't know...

My wife and I eloped.

Do I sound jaded?

I dont think I am and I do enjoy the occasional dress-up event, but it does feel like what is an "event" worthy of splurging on is expanding. At least when I was a kid, it was weddings and funerals, but now it has expanded out to where every day is a special occasion of some sort.

It is like dessert after dinner, but now there is dessert after lunch and breakfast also.

Still, this is a wedding and that makes it acceptable to spend on and I am glad we are in Finland, where people don't go crazy over these things, like they do in some places. Finnish weddings are very laidback affairs in comparison, with the focus on having fun, rather than showing out for looks.

And the result of the hair is far better than I could have done at home, or my wife could have.

I think she looks good, though these "wedding dos" have essentially been all the same style for decades now it seems.

And, this is the first time Smallsteps is ever having her hair done in this way by a hairdresser, and she is surprisingly patient in the chair.

I hope the hairdresser glues that hair in place, otherwise it is going to last all of 15 minutes, as part of getting the hair done in this way, is keeping it done in this way.

Though, she looks pretty impressed with the curls!

And then the necessary "pain" of style to set it all in place - for however long it will last...

IMG_20220716_122302.jpg

And the final looks.

IMG_20220716_122526.jpg

I think my wife will look okay when she goes grey(er) - but how long will it be until she stops dying her hair? It is again funny when people talk about looks not mattering, but they still spend time changing their own in various ways to make themselves feel better about their changing bodies.

This cut is slimming! Horizontal stripes make me look fat.

IMG_20220716_122554.jpg

I am definitely not above this myself, but I tend to prefer to try to do something physical about my looks, rather than cover it over with style tricks.

I need to lose about 15 kilos.

And of course, after all of this - looking out the window from the salon and...

IMG_20220716_114903.jpg

It is pouring down.

The wedding couple were meant to have shots outside and as far as I know, had very little backup plan in case it rained. They didn't want studio shots, but I suspect that it is what they are going to end up with, since it is a toss up between that or, "drowned rat" images. However, I actually think the variability of nature can bring a lot of value to the shots and, tell more of a story than the "perfect" weather images, making them more memorable and personal.

But, it isn't my wedding and I don't have to live with the results :)

One thing I am really, really glad about is...

I wasn't asked to take the photos.
