Perhaps I should head over to MEOWS when it launches as after all, I like pussy. That poor joke aside, I think it is good that there is more blogging platforms in the works and I am glad that people are going to go over there and check it out and I am sure it isn't going to be the same group of people who are on every platform cross- dressing posting for reward.
How I see it is that while some people may not agree, there is a massive amount of space for blockchains and while some are going to overlap in use case, it doesn't mean they can't coexist. A lot of people seem to think that the sun shines out of @dan's backchain but for me, a lot of the lustre has been lost as the idea of competition arises. Again, it seems ego and greed based, and not the visionary position of global economic change and abundance he has so often proclaimed.
It is a funny little conflict in the cryptosphere that no matter how much people understand the technology and believe it will dominate the world, most are still living in a mindset of scarcity. Peace, Love and Abundance is replaced by rivalry, hate and limitation. This is no surprise of course, because we all live in and come from a world where there is not enough to go round, no matter how much there actually is to go round.
For me, the people who keep jumping chains are the ones who will always keep jumping chains whenever something doesn't suit them. Perhaps this is okay as in time they might find a place they want to spend their time or, be forced to stay where they last landed because the sun has set on opportunity in other places. I wonder what it would be like in the world if people had the freedom to move as they choose, how many would stay in their own country?
It is another interesting thing that people will leave their homes to become refugees in countries that offer a better economic or standard of living yet how many "better" countries welcome them in? Is anyone escaping Steem looking for asylum on EOS? Will all of the tiny extractor accounts (and large) make the move so they can extract across many platforms? I would say so. They do it now and this is likely why the introduction of fees like the 500 BTS (35 dollars at the time) for a wallet to gain from the BEOS raindrop was charged. Economic barriers to entry. It is this that limits mobility in the real world too as the cost of moving for opportunity can be too high. It doesn't sound very abundant, it does make it exclusive though.
Remember that exclusive means to exclude. Perhaps Steem will become the poorman's blockchain that is used by the masses because of the feeless transfers while EOS is for the rich who can buy into the club. So far at least it seems far to complex for the average folk of the world and since this is a collection phase in crypto, that is quite telling about what it might look like later. This likely suits a lot of people too as it makes a better experience for users if they don't have to see poor people :D
Does this matter, does anyone actually care about this kind of thing? Probably not. I read someone's comment the other day about a 300 Steem prize for a competition saying it isn't worth it for people to take part as it is *only one day's salary. No, in some places that is two months salary and the job it takes to get it is unlikely to be pleasant and in an air-conditioned office.
What I have liked about Steem is that it has given people opportunity to build something from nothing and although not everyone will be very successful, the possibility is still very much available and many have taken it. If one day Steem does go to 10 or 20 dollars, for many people it is not just a life changing amount, it is a real-world community changing amount, the kind of thing that can transform localized worlds in the poorest places on earth.
What would be an interesting and impossible metric would be to see the distribution of cryptocurrencies by global region as well as what is being spent and where. I would predict that a significant amount of Steem has run through some very poor areas and, is also held in some very poor areas. I would predict that less is held than has been spent though.
Of course, one of the benefits of crypto is that location is of little concern but it is when we consider that we all have a real life to contend with where location does matter. Background matters too as while not many care much for where people are from here, I know that they do care where I am from in Finland. This is another barrier similar to economic hurdles.
The thing with all of this is that no matter what we like to believe about the future, we still carry the experience of our past and the circumstances of our present with us and as a result, we hold a lot of fear. Fear that there won't be enough to go around, fear of missing out, fear that we won't benefit, fear that we will lose our investment, fear of spending our time, fear of losing our time, fear of being discovered, fear of not being noticed, fear, fear, fear...
This is the Cryptosfear.
What if all of our fears are unfounded and Peace, Love and Abundance is the future? Maybe all of our fears will cost us our hopes and dreams from being realized.
Scared? I am sometimes.
