This year I’m receiving the new year in Merida, my soon to be home, although this trip is just a vacation, I’m not staying there for more than ten days. I’m celebrating the beginning of 2022 with my whole family and my mom’s dog Conga and my oldest doggie, Noia. Our family trips are always a complete chaos and utter stress, at least during the planning and the getting there, especially because we always bring a couple dogs and my niece, so there’s noise and disorder all the time. Right now, we are currently going to the airport and nothing big has happened, I just hope it stays the same at the airport and during the flight.

I had never travelled with dogs before, but my Noia is already 11 years old and I would love her to see the ocean at least once before she leaves from my side. I’m taking her below my plane seat and I already did all the paperwork for her to board without problems, but I’m still a little bit nervous and scared they won’t let her in, despite me checking and rechecking everything she needs. But the thrill and emotion I feel for her to know the ocean trumps every other feeling. It sounds horrible but it’s just being realistic, she might go any time now… she’s a pug and they have many health issues and pass away early on, so better do it now that I can.

Begoña, Pancho and Kiri, my other three dogs will stay these ten days in my parents house with their other dogs. They will keep company with each other, and the cleaning lady will feed them every day, so I am calm and easy about leaving them alone. They’ll miss me and I’ll miss them, but they will be taken care of. I feel bad about Begoña, the boxer, because every time I leave for a trip or business, when I come back I do it to a slim, sad and unhealthy doggie because she doesn’t it if I’m not around, but I can’t stop doing my things and stop living because of this.

In these pics, you can see the little fence we set in the staircase that divides the house in floors, so Begoña doesn’t get in trouble and fight Filla, my dad’s Belgian Shepherd. This is just a precaution because a few years ago when Begoña arrived to our home from the streets, they got into a huge fight and obviously, Filla kicked her ass easily and almost killed her, so I’m never leaving them together again.

My dad is somewhat sad because before this fight, Begoña and Filla used to keep each other company when we left on holidays, because all the other small dogs stay together and Filla stays on her own, so we avoid any tragedy, and now Filla stays all by her own, alone and lonely.

This is my mother, the one that is the most excited about this trip. She is a very hardworking woman, intense as hell, that works every weekday from 9 am to 10 pm, leaving just ten minutes between patients to eat, and during the weekends she gives lectures, conferences or psychoanalysis events. She’s an admirable woman, but sometimes just seeing her working all the time gives me horrible feelings, so, I’m glad she gave herself these days. This is more than a very well deserved vacation for her.
