Apart from the Sugar Palm fruit that I found in the opened market during my trip with my sister and my mother recently, https://steemit.com/food/@tangmo/sugar-palm-fruit-in-syrup, I also found two other Thai ancient desserts or snacks; “Khanom Khai Nok Krata” and “Khanom Khai Hong”.
Khanom Khai Nok Krata – this name in Thai actually means;
Khanom = dessert or snack
Khai Nok Krata = quail egg
But, this is absolutely not egg of quail at all, only the size or shape of this dessert or snack that looks like the quail egg, so we call it like that. This is, in fact, dough ball or you may know it as “Thai Fried Sweet Potato Balls”. Its taste is sweet; crispy outside, but soft inside.
The bigger one is called “Khanom Khai Hong”. This name in Thai actually means;
Khanom = dessert or snack
Khai Hong = swan egg
And this is absolutely not egg of swan at all. Its taste is quite similar to Khanom Khai Nok Krata; crispy outside, but soft inside. Khanom Khai Nok Krata has nothing inside, but Khanom Khai Hong is stuffed with mung bean mixing with pepper and with white sesame outside.
These are Thai street foods. Very yummy and they can make my tea time more perfect!
