Thank goodness I can type the words I want to say here today. My voice was totally gone this morning, and what returned later is scratchy and prone to interruptions when I have a coughing fit! It does feel as though the congestion in my lungs is breaking up though. Only a few more days of misery while my immune systen finishes its work.
You can't really take a sick day on the farm, so I bundled up and did chores this morning. The fresh air was actually a bit therapeutic, I felt better afterward for being out there. I had to wait for my next-door-neighbor Dad to bring a large round bale to feed the sheep today, so I got to take plenty of pictures of patiently waiting sheep.
My sheep all have a unique ID number, and some (but definitely not all) have names that we refer to them by. I like that I have a lot of variation in markings in my flock, it makes it easier to spot individual animals and know their number/name at a distance. This is 11, for instance:
Her daughter is number 20, the greyish one to the left in the photo below. And 20's twin daughters from spring 2016, to the right, 43 and 49, even have slighty different facial markings. They look a lot like their grandma though!
This next one is a ewe lamb. She still has her lamb tag, A1, in, so I don't know what her number will be, it's luck of the draw on tagging day. Right now, she has her mother's number (which happens to be 1) plus a letter (in this case, A) to indicate birth order. Her brother was B1. They had a stillborn sister as well, who is recorded in my paperwork as C1, although she was never tagged.
They're all just so pretty!
Even my mostly wild donkey came to say hello. No petting her yet, she's still learning to trust. So I have to stand very still and just let her smell me or she'll bolt.
I even made a gif! B'ewe'lah chewing her cud.
Haha.
After chores were done, I stayed indoors. My best friend came out and we visited and watched some Star Wars. And I baked cookies! From this lovely, well-loved cookbook.
