Subscribe to http://bit.ly/TanbayTV While I’m grateful that I traveled the world before #COVID19 I’m sure there are many people who are stuck at home with wanderlust, so I made this video to give my best #traveltips for international travel, I also discuss what to do when traveling, the dont’s, as well as some suggestions. Here are my #biggesttravelmistakes, to find out more about each mistake, watch the video above.

Travel as an excuse - ā€˜A wise traveler never despises his own country.’ - Carlos Osvaldo Goldoni. What I mean by ā€˜Travel as an excuse’ is this: If you just want to travel to not be bored, to get away from your routine and/or problems, those same problems will likely reappear wherever you go, since the issue may be psychological, so those problems should be dealt with before doing any travel, especially international travel. To really understand what I mean I’d suggest reading the book, or watching the documentary called ā€˜The Art of Travel’ by Alain de Botton:

Not planning enough - There’s a book about slow thinking called ā€˜Thinking, Fast and Slow’ by Daniel Kahneman who won a Nobel Price in Economics and made the book because of the following discovery: When people SHOULD use slow thinking (important decisions) they use fast thinking and that's when they make huge mistakes. So, what I’m saying here is, if you’re planning a trip overseas, or even just a short holiday, think about it slowly rather than quickly to make less mistakes. Find out more about Daniel Kahneman and his book here:

Daily Vlogs - When you begin your travels (or maybe even prior to that) you may to capture as much as you can to make travel videos etc. While that is fine, personally I found daily vlogs (a daily video about whatever happened that day) just too much work and it often ruined travel for me. However, when I was just filming stuff and edited it afterwards, it was much a much better experience. Here is an example of a video (not a vlog) that I made as an introduction video for this channel:
Here is another example of a video (not a vlog) about the top reasons to visit the Azores (a.k.a. the Hawaii of Europe)

How to find the best flights - For a long time I had no idea how to actually look for the best flights, by ā€˜best’ I not only mean cheapest, but cheapest while still being convenient. There’s an entire blog post written on how to find the cheapest flights here, this post includes a promotional discount code: https://www.travellingweasels.com/2019/04/kiwi-flights-promo-code-review.html

Sacrificing comfort for money - What would you do if money were no object? Watch this video with Alan Watts talking about how to live life with passion and not use lack of resources as an excuse: Sometimes I sacrificed comfort in order to save money and it was awful (see point 7 below), but other times it was great. For example House sitting, which means staying in peoples homes while they are away and looking after the property and pets in exchange for free accommodation. Find out more about that here, this article includes a discount code: https://www.travellingweasels.com/2018/07/trustedhousesitters-discount-code.html

Not going to my favourite travel destination first (or sooner) I always wanted to go to Japan, but it was certainly not the first country I visited. When I finally went, it was just as amazing as I thought it would be, check out this video about 17 reasons why you have to visit Tokyo at least once:

Sleeping at airports - This one is pretty obvious, don’t sleep at airports!

Passport issues - Make sure your passport is up to date and that you have all the nesseccary travel documents (visa etc) to be allowed into the place you want to visit.

Eating the wrong food - Here is the reason and the day I stopped eating meat: Basically, I saw the remainder of a dog for sale (because people eat them in Vietnam, where the video was shot)

Drinking tap water - Here’s a list of places where you can’t drink the tap water: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-6782169/The-187-countries-NOT-drink-tap-water-not-safe.html
