DEPRESSION
This means feeling of severe dejection,it means discouragement, sorrow, sadness etc. Depression leads to despair whereby causing you to lose hope in a situation. Those in depression really needs help immediately or urgently because it leads to a person committing suicide.
In Judges 16:18-30,we can see how they maltreated Samson and how he was depressed. His enemies(the Philistines) really tortured him.
- They plucked his eyes
- They bound him
- They put him in prison
- They made him dance to their idols.
All these they did to him and he was depressed and made a statement about his situation in verse 30 that,
"And Samson said,Let me die with the Philistines."
When you are depressed,there is nothing you will not want to do so that you can be free. An adage will say, "Death is better than shame" It is because the situation is out of your control,this is from the devil because he never wants to see us happy or being successful,so he brings something that will destabilize us and make us say words we are not meant to say at that time.
Satan put many people in depression that all they could think of is committing suicide.
OBSESSION
This is another act of the devil. This is when you get focus on something, an harmful object to the exclusion of others. Let's take Solomon as an example. In 1Kings 11:1-4, Solomon's obsession was SEX. Solomon had seven hundred (700)wives,and yet,he still looks outside wanting to have sex. He never for a day go on a break about this sex,all he could do was to have sex all day. Some people also cannot live a day without this sex. They see sex as do or die moment,we have many people who have this sex till the dawn of the day. This is a serious act because such person involves needs deliverance. To some people,their own obsession may be FOOD. They eat without their mouth stopping. Whatever they see,they eat, their mouth is never on break for a minute. They must be eating something at a particular time.
Another obsession is TALKING When you see someone talking without stopping for some minutes, they need deliverance because it is another act of the devil. They talk and talk while they waste their precious time instead of doing something meaningful to their life. They speak without knowing when to stop. It is not normal. Get to know your obsession and work toward it by praying to God to help you out.
POSSESSION
When we are talking about possession, then it means the devil has now come to take full charge of that person's life completely,he has found his resting place and abode. An example of this is the mad man of Gadara in Mark 5:2-15, Devil has taken over his life completely and he is seen tearing himself with stones and wounding himself. I pray devil will not take possession of our life in Jesus name. When devil takes possession of someone's life,the person will almost kill himself even before there is solution. This man was in total trouble until he came in contact with Jesus Christ who delivered him completely.
How do you know a person who is demon possessed? It is not necessary that those who are possessed, walking nakedly on the street are more serious enough. There are some people well dressed and demons are dwelling in them,they call them madness in clothing. These categories are prone to danger because they are far dangerous that the ones you can physically see. They are not easy to identify or detect whether there is something wrong with them. Both the one who is nakedly possessed and the one well dressed have something in common. They engage in Self Destructive Habit like the mad man of Gadara.
To some,it may not be insanity,but are possessed with smoking cigarettes that even when you tell them the danger in it,they will know it is dangerous but there is another force living in then that will not allow them listen or take your advice until a supernatural power comes to take them away. They continue in the habit even though they know the side effect.
DEMON RE-POSSESSED
This is more powerful than the ones I mentioned earlier because when a demon possessed person has been delivered and the evil spirit sent out,the spirit goes away looking for where to stay and when he can't find any,he goes back to where it came from,once he finds the place well kept and clean without no one occupying the person's heart,he goes to bring other seven spirit that are more powerful than him they start living there. Then the end of the person will be worst than the beginning.
Matthew 12:43:45,
"When the unclean spirit is out of a man,he walketh through dry places,seeking rest,and findeth none.
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out;and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept,and garnished
Then goeth he,and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there:and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."
That is why a person who is free should continue praying and studying the word of God so that there would not be room for such evil spirit again.
WHAT MUST I DO TO REMAIN FREE?
1 Learn to witness: After the mad man of Gadara was delivered, he wanted to follow Jesus but He told him in Mark 5:19 that,
"Howbeit Jesus suffered him not,but saith unto him,Go home to thy friends,and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee,and had compassion on thee."
After you have been free from whatever problems,learn to be a witness and tell others how the Lord has saved you so others can benefit from it.
2 Learn to serve: You must be willing to serve God in all ways. Mary Magdalene after being delivered from seven spirits, she became a divine treasurer, she served Jesus all her life and even followed Him to where His body was laid.
3 Be filled with the Holy spirit: When you are filled with the Holy spirit, no spirit contrary to God can dwell in you because it is already occupied.
