Hello everyone, and welcome back to my daily(ish) blog. We have been super busy trying to settle in our new apartment (it sounds like we moved to another country - sorry for my mini drama @abigail-dantes :) ), but considering that I am as they call it "a type A personality" and a perfectionist, I put a lot of stress in to almost everything that depends on me.
So, I had a ton of lists made, what should be packed, what should be tossed away and what should be given away. Also, in the new apartment there were some stuff that needed fixing, cleaning and in general packing in our new life, and finding a place for everything.
While we hurried with the packing (don't know why we rushed) I noticed that Minnie (our dog) is acting a little bit strange. She is a shy dog every day, but in the new apartment she was more scared than ever. She didn't want to rest or sleep, din't want to play. She just roamed around, smelling and listening to every little sound.
I understood that environment change is stressful for animals, but then it hit me - we are animals too - animals that love routine and habits, so even though I didn't realize it, my brain had to work extra hard to adjust to new environment. All along I thought that I was feeling stressed because there is so much to do, but I think it's more the fact that it is natural to fell "an unease" feeling of unknown. Our primal brain doesn't know if you are safe there, and I admire Minnie who just went with it, and explored the space for hours.
Minnie chilling after few days
We decided than and there that we need a glass of vine, some music and home cooked meal, to relax and give our selfes some time. The moment I felt something familiar, like the sound of my favorite songs or the smell of my favorite food, I relaxed (the vine helped). After a few days everything went back to "normal" (I put it under quotation mark because normal is a relative term for everyone).
We are settling in just fine and every day is a new beginning, and some beautiful lesson.
Looking forward to new adventures and blogs!
With love,
Tamara
