Let's, first of all, establish I'm not a religious movie fan. I'm a practical man in many ways, and as such, a lot of the things people do, especially for fun and entertainment come across as frivolities to me. I tend to think putting the money that I would have used to buy a movie ticket is better used for getting foodstuffs. So, the times I have gone have been down to the unyielding will of the love of my life. You know that scenario where you are asked if you would like to do something, but you know it's not a request? Well, yes that's her pulling me to the movies. Anyways, so my top ten would be:

  1. The pursuit of happiness
  2. The King of Boys (Nolllywood)
  3. Hedgehog 2
  4. The Prophetess (Nollywood)
  5. Kubo and the two strings
  6. Chief Daddy (Nollywood)
  7. The grey man
  8. Black Panther
  9. Sin City
  10. Independence (Nollywood)

All of those movies are great. They are mostly Nollywood and Hollywood production. But the one I hold dearest is "The Prophetess". If not for the Yoruba language and some of the rural scenes, you might never have believed Its Nollywood production. Everything was just perfect. The storyline, the plot, the acting, the lighting, the directing, the humour, the human touch to it; everything is on point. It's one of just three movies that has come close to a 10 for me and the only one to get it.

But I have to say I'm also sentimental about it because Its screening is kind of the first date I took my partner out to. I will always remember the day and the movie fondly.

I recommend seeing these movies, especially the Nollywood productions. Apart from learning to see the world through the eyes of other people other than Americans and Europeans, Nollywood movies are usually filled with both a good dose of laughter and wisdom.
