For over a decade, I have regularly taken trips to what I like to call the "Land of the Gnomes." Here in this pristine mountain landscape I've made many friends and fell in love with strangers I'll never know again. Switzerland is a place of beauty, secrecy, science, and wonder. I make a conscious effort to try and visit us much as possible. It's always in my head.

A few years back, my dad and I took the trip for Christmas.

It's a long trip from Alabama. We have to take planes, trains, and automobiles for many hours to get to out final destinations.

First we stopped in Lucerne, Switzerland to see the lion monument after both of us having incredibly synchronistic dreams about an attacking lion. We had been to the monument back in 1993 but decided to revisit. Some things just go beyond words, so I have decided to keep that story off page.

The colorful buildings along the streets are something out of a fantasy novel.

Our final destination always is Interlaken, Switzerland. It's nestled right between two glacier fed lakes (hence the name). We have friends who own a hostel called The Funny Farm in Interlaken. This hostel/hotel caters to extreme sports enthusiasts, backpackers, and travelers alike. I initially visited this place after receiving information from another traveler in a youth hostel in Rome, Italy. I had to go check it out and I'm so glad I did .

Hiking the trail behind The Funny Farm to bury our magic rocks. This is the place I want my ashes scattered when I die. I know this weird. Oh well!

Train Selfie on my reluctant way back to the airport in Zurich. (Note: If you are a shopping enthusiast, Zürich Switzerland is the place to go.)
