The sun that gives life, warmth, light..... I love sunsets... And sunrises when I manage to wake up 🤭
Through the myths and legends of various peoples, I learned how Sunny was always worshiped and celebrated... I got the impression that our ancestors were more aware of the place where we live and how dependent we are on natural forces... And especially which are the most important....
In this fast time, the connection with nature is lost...and everything around us is taken for granted.
That's why I would like to remind you now of some myths, legends... that I found interesting... about the Sun.... Without whom there would be no life as we know it...
I begin with the Greek myth of the Sun. God Helios
The morning slowly wakes up... From the east the ruddy horizon....the dawn goddess Eos opens the door through which the sun god Helios will come out....in a bright yellow dress with pink wings, the goddess of the dawn paints the sky pink.... From a golden jar, she sprinkles dew on the earth...
The drops fall on the grass and flowers, shining like diamonds... Everything smells... The awakened Earth joyfully welcomes Helios.....
The god Helios emerges from the shores of the ocean in a golden chariot pulled by four horses. It rises higher and higher... And the stars flee before the light.... It illuminates more and more.... Giving the Earth light, warmth and life...
Having completed his daily journey, Helios descends into the clear waters of the Ocean. There, a golden cone awaits him that will take him to the east, where his wonderful castle is located. There he rests overnight, to come out in full glory in the morning....
"There is an earthly Sun, which is the cause of all warmth, and all who are able to see, see the Sun, and those who are blind and cannot see it, feel its warmth. There is one eternal Sun, which is the source of all wisdom, and they whose spiritual senses have been awakened to life, will see that Sun and be aware of its existence; but those who have not attained complete spiritual consciousness, may nevertheless perceive its power by means of the inner faculty called intuition."
Paracelsus
This quote points to what many cultures already knew, that the Sun is not only the center because of its position, but also because of its vital and spiritual power...
Among the Celts there were many deities with solar attributes. Also various festivals that mark various moments of the solar cycle....
At the Beltane festival (Beltane means "bright fire" and refers to the Sun) the return of summer is still celebrated today... Large bonfires were sometimes made of blueberries... They were built for purification and renewal....
Beltane is associated with Belenus, called "The Bright Shining One" (or "Shining God"), who is one of the oldest and most revered Celtic deities. This deity is associated with a horse..he rides across the sky in a chariot pulled by a horse.
It is one of the characteristics of the solar deity.
