My entry for this Edicion 18
And this time I continue with the story of the Little Prince ...
Chapter XIV Little Prince
The fifth planet was very strange. Least of all. There was just enough room on it to accommodate a lantern and a man lighting it. The little prince could not explain to himself what lanterns and lanterns were for, somewhere in the sky, on a planet without houses and inhabitants. But he said to himself:
"Maybe that man is really insane. Still, he's less insane than a king, than a conceited man, than a businessman and a drunkard. His job makes at least some sense. When he lights his lantern, it's like a new star or one a flower. When you turn off a lantern, it puts a flower or a star to sleep. It's a very nice occupation. It's really useful because it's beautiful. "
When he lands on the planet, he respectfully greets the lantern maker:
-Good afternoon. Why did you turn off your lantern?
- That's how it's done, the man replied. Good afternoon.
- What's done?
- To turn off my lantern. Good evening.
And he set it on fire again.
- But why did you set it on fire again?
"That's what was ordered," he replied.
"I don't understand," said the little prince.
"There's nothing to understand," said the lantern maker. An order is an order. Good afternoon.
And he turned off his lantern...
Then he wiped the whole thing with a red plaid handkerchief.
- It's a terrible craft. It used to make sense. I turned it off in the morning and lit it in the evening. The rest of the day I could rest, and the rest of the night I could sleep ...
- And since then, the order has changed?
"The order hasn't changed," the man said. That is the tragedy! The planet is turning faster and faster from year to year, and the next one is not changing! - Well, said the little prince.
-Well, now that it's spinning once a minute, I don't have a second to rest. I turn it on once every minute and turn it off once! - That's ridiculous! Your days last one minute!
"It's not funny at all," said the lantern maker. It's been a whole month since the two of us talked.
-A whole month?
-That. Thirty minutes. Thirty days! Good evening.
And he lit his lantern again.
The little prince looked at him, liking the man who obeyed the order so much. He remembered the sunsets he had once followed by pulling up his chair. He wanted to help his friend: - You know ... I know a way to rest when you want to ...
I want it now, said the lantern maker.
Because a man can obey orders and be lazy at the same time.
The Little Prince continued:
-Your planet is so small you can go around it in three steps. You just have to go very lightly, so that you are always in the sun. When you want to rest, take a step ... and the day will last as long as you want.
"It doesn't help me much," said the lantern maker. Of all things in life, I love sleeping the most.
"Too bad," said the little prince.
"Too bad," said the lantern maker. Good afternoon.
And he turned off his lantern.
This one here, said the little prince to himself as he continued his journey, would be despised by all, and the king, and the conceited, and the drunkard, and the businessman. However, that is the only one that is not funny to me. Maybe because he's dealing with something other than himself.
He sighed with regret and said to himself again:
"He's the only one I can make friends with. But his planet is too small. There's no room for two ..."
But the little prince did not dare admit to himself that he had in fact mourned for that blessed planet for its one thousand four hundred and forty sunsets in twenty-four hours!馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗馃寗
