Mai Tai Drink

The Mai Tai moved toward becoming related with Hawaii when it was served by Oahu's famous "Pink Palace," The Royal Hawaiian. Bergeron was contracted to make the inn's drink menu, and he made another adaptation of the Mai Tai to engage guests who needed to taste fruity mixed drinks on the shoreline. (We can relate.) It turned out to be so mainstream, it was included in the Elvis motion picture Blue Hawaii, and it was said to be one of President Nixon's most loved beverages. Mai Tai Drink Recipe
1 ¼ oz. light rum
½ oz. orgeat syrup
½ oz. orange curacao
2 oz. lemon juice
2 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. dark rum float

There's some level headed discussion about who designed the primary Mai Tai. Victor J. Bergeron, otherwise known as Trader Vic and author of the tiki bar of a similar name, cases to have designed the rum mixed drink in 1944. He made the drink for his companions from Tahiti, who were going by his unique station in Oakland, California. Supposedly, subsequent to tasting his blend, one of his companions stated, "Maita'i roa ae," which means "the best," and the name Mai Tai was conceived.
