My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother
Children's future depends on obeying their parents. King Solomon's second proverb is aimed at children regarding obeying their parents. He did this after introducing Proverbs. Children, a mother's law and a father's instruction can bring prosperity to your life. But the results of choosing to reject their training are an early death, trouble and pain.
The fear of the Lord was exalted in the first proverb. ( Proverbs 1:7 ). The foundation for every life is knowing and obeying your Creator. The very next rule for a successful life is this: obeying the parents the Creator chose and gave to you.
Remember this though reader, not every mother gives godly laws, and not every father gives good instruction. But King Solomon and his wife were very wise. King Solomon wanted his son to pay attention, because he himself had good parents. ( Proverbs 4:1–4 ). If children have Christian parents and they desire God's best for you, then you have every reason to obey them. But, even if you do not, God still wants you to fully obey them!
After children fear the Lord, if children want to be wise and if they want to avoid life's pitfalls, then they need to obey the knowledge from their parents and the wisdom received from them. This is a fantastic thing dear reader! For children God has appointed an experienced woman and man whom have deep emotional ties to be the very guardians for them! Because of this why would a child ever choose to disobey their mother or father?
Children have a tendency to not obey their parents. Many fathers and mothers ask, "Why did he do that after I specifically told him not to?". This is because children only have a fraction of the knowledge that their parents have. Their parents are focused on the future, but children are shortsighted, focusing only on the short term. and on the present. They captivated by childish foolishness. They insist on doing things their way even though their parents know them better than they know themselves. How foolish dear reader!
It is the sins of self-deception, rebellion and pride. The child believes he or she knows more than their parents, yet they are barely trained enough to drink from a cup or even use the toilet! Instead of saving it wants to spend all it's income, even though the child hasn't worked for it a day in it's life.
Reader let me ask you, is obeying parents as important as the bible makes it out to be? Is disobedience worthy of the death penalty I ask you? Definitely! Even if the child directly disobeys their parents and faces no consequences, God Himself demands strict obedience to provide for parental tranquility. God Himself will destroy rebels.
Listen child, you have been warned about rejecting your parents. But if you will obey and honor them, God has offered an incentive. He will make your life long and He will bless it with good success. ( Ephesians 6:1–3 ). Child see this and believe your good fortune! Being given two loving parents who teach you good fortune, and yes, severe judgement if you rebel, but if you obey you receive supernatural blessings! The choice is yours. By obeying you can have everything in the way of success, and peace.
Father, your Creator has given you this duty, to instruct your children to succeed in life and to grow in favor with God. Mother, you are also responsible along with your husband to lay down the law for your children to save them from the horrible troubles this perverse generation has to offer. Parents, make sure you prepare your children to please God in this life.
Reader, submit yourself to the laws and the instruction from your Father in heaven. Even your prayers will become an abomination to Him if you neglect the preaching of his word!
