Diving through the pools of artistry that laps along the trails of digital landscapes I’ve come across the following works of art. Appreciate them and admire the aesthetic essences found within.
Artist: Daniel Loya
The Biomorphic, Gieger-esque aesthetic is tried and true but remains one of those alluring and pivotal styles in all of art; it is truly up to each user how far they want to push the juxtaposition between humanizable subjects and abstract-geometrical objects. Dan Loya does a fantastic job and I’m glad to have found his works! Show your appreciation to him and the beautiful works he’s created.
Vision of a light absoarbiss
What is so enthralling about the Biomorphic aesthetic, popularized by H.R. Gieger, is the uncanny ability to transform a seemingly regular object into something viciously fantastical; Loya really knocks it out of the park with this piece! A wonderful pose, positioned facing the light, gives a bevy of surface to play with and Dan expresses the values very well here. Following the flowing forms as they intricately weave throughout one object to another is fascinating to dive through. I really get some serious imaginative thoughts from looking at this, especially story concepts. You might not see it at first, but her headdress is connected to the wall behind her. The Biomorphic aesthetic blurs the idea of aparatus, construct and lifeless objects with biological vigor. A Splendid work indeed.
Empress
I appreciate Loya for having works like this, which act as experimental examples to study. Study pieces like this are important for artists to develop, and often these kind of works frame the majority of an artists’ cadre of creations. The juxtaposition between the well developed human face and the geometrical shapes flowing across the skull and down is exactly the kind of visual expression that pulls me into these sorts of works. Look at how many shapes Loya fits into each space, creating immense thickness and depth. The discomfort displayed through the persons’ face adds to the peculiarity of the juxtaposed forms.
Project Function
Empress showed us the initial idea of taking a portrait and filling it with the Biomorphic aesthetic; this work really pushes that forward and amps it up with the addition of colours. This is truly a completed work, although the slight smudges might make you think otherwise, the intricacy and depth of this is amazing. You seriously lose yourself in the machine shapes, lines and coiled parts. Seeing all the varied hues for each shape really builds a presence of value within the alien space. The ultimate goal of the Biomorphic aesthetic is to equally blend the machine and human, which Loya displays show well with this piece. Just the right amount of sharp and soft makes the composition seem to clean and discreet. I dig this one a lot!
Czarina
Dan is really quite good at portraits, although he has so few available. Portraits are perfect for the Biomorphic aesthic as it maintains that semblance of humanizable form which is then morphed across the alien and abstract shapes that juxtapose the entire composition. Seeing the marks of traditional creation adds this layer of grit and texture that is commonly tossed aside to mirror the Gieger style which is often more metallic, smooth and soft. I love how the area where the ear would be is a series of shapes that push the perspective inward and create this geodesic crown for the woman.
Artist: Madi May
Character design is a place many artists call home, but some are weary to venture into as it can come off as fairly daunting. Mady does a splendid job with a huge gallery of characters; she really has proven herself with respect to the vital aspects needed for strong character designs. Show Madi your appreciation and give her some love!
Pwni
Such a striking pose, and quite a difficult one at that to develop with lineart. The proportions are well-done and really flair up the personality of the character set before us. Madi has placed the right amount of minute details to embolden the design. Notice the red lines and how they flow along the anatomy to the middle-finger? Edgy, coy and a bit sexually playful; I dig it. This would fit right-in with something like Kill La Kill, Panty & Stocking or even One-Punch Man.
Mao
Character designs usually have a bevy of details that need a lot of perspectives to full embrace, especially for the sake of animation or modeling. In terms of general creation, using this kind of format for developing a sense of cohesion between line & shape is an important practice for artists to take part in to develop their skills. I really dig the design of this character in particular, Madi has quite a few in her gallery, especially with the way the braided hair forms together on the chest and the way the lines flow along the dress and sleeves. Those ears remind me of Chobits!
Bullet Pantsu
Tig Bitties aside, this is a nicely completed character design. I believe this is from a video game, but, it fits well within the aesthetic that Madi often imparts onto her creations. You can see how just enough variance in value really gives just enough depth to the design, making even smaller ‘flat’ portions fill up with dimensional focus. I’m a sucker for girls with that kind of hair style too lmao.
Boundwolf
Too lewd? Naw son, art is art and this fits perfectly with my teaching focus. There are clearly distinguished boundaries between various themes, aesthetics and emotional stories within an artwork. As seen previously with Dan Loya’s works, juxtaposing organic and geometric shapes can become profoundly unique; the same applies here with character designs that border between practicality and eroticism. Stil keeping in-line with solid proportions and T H I C C’ness, the design is fairly minimal until you take in all the small details that flourish the composition: the tufts beneath the belts on her torn leggings, the ruffled cloth hanging from forearm, and the bevy of hair that roguishly flows behind her on down to the ground. I’m okay with this, and if you’re not then at least respect the technical acumen that created this work.
