Despite the fact that we believe in the democratic governance, which is a system of government by the people and for the people when compared to the military rule that is an authoritarian system, democracy has not favored many countries that are practicing it which Nigeria 🇳🇬 is an example.
Democracy is the most recognized system of government in many countries where the people called the citizens has the right to vote 🗳 for their choice of candidates or persons through credibility and being aware that such a person or people will deliver what is expected of them. Therefore, this system is believed to be a strategy with an aim to provide a leadership by the people and for the people in a country.
As long as I can remember as a child from what I was taught in Government and Social Studies as subjects, democracy which is a government of the people, by the people and for the people has never been practiced the way it is supposed to be in my country and many other countries that I do follow up on their current affairs. And this has made me come to conclusion that their is no system of government that is perfectly established.
Although we can all agree that the democratic government is better than the military governance due to the autocratic system involved in ruling the citizens without anyone having any say or the power to challenge who ever that is in power. In the democratic government we could still see how those in power try’s to structure things with some bit of fairness, considering also some few things from citizens opinion, especially in matters that needs to be debated upon since they are elected by the citizens.
For me and in reality, I can say that democracy is not being practiced the way it should be because the people involved are corrupt and this has continued to be a circle as they rule and go without any changes from those that left before they came, making democracy a bitter experience for citizens of the country. And its not that these leaders can not do better but because they choose to do things their own way without caring about the masses well-being.
The worst to this system and practice is how people are already chosen before elections are conducted. This means that those at the top level called the political class and politicians inwardly choose among themselves from their party groups who will represent them either in the Presidential level, governorship level and other arms of government. Democracy in other words has become an inner caucus settings. Making many the ones to be enjoying the National cake. The last Presidential Election 🗳 in my country Nigeria 🇳🇬 made it so clear. This is not democracy system of government.
But in all, despite how the citizens has not benefited very well from the country’s democracy ruling, I still believe that democracy is the best system of government any country could have . And I do hope that there is always that one person that can change things and turn it around if given the opportunity. I still do hope that democracy leadership is that system of government that will revive my country Nigeria 🇳🇬. That one chosen God sent soul.
