With the fluctuating temperatures lately, some days have been very warm and sunny for this time of year. The birds are already cleaning out the birdhouses of last year's nests. I have been watching them staking their claim to the many houses I have among my gardens.
The female is inside the house doing a thorough inspection while the male seems to be standing guard.
She would pop her head out and then go back inside the house over and over again. The male sparrow just continues to check out the perimeter while she is doing her inspection.
It is interesting watching them as they survey everything around the house. The female is especially curious compared to the male. Perhaps she is the one that makes the final decision after all.
After all that hard work the pair flew down to the Hemlock below the house and had a thorough preening session. It seems as though the vote was in on the new home for this year's offspring. It will be fun to watch them as they rear their young.
This birdhouse sits above my little pond and is right off the corner of my back porch. This gives me a close view of this cute couple.
