Pruning Hydrangeas - Winterizing the Pond - Husband's Knee Surgery - by Sunscape
I've been squeezing in the last of the fall cleanup and winterizing while my hubby takes his naps throughout the day. Knee surgery has been a rough one for him at 81 years old.
I cut a good foot off each branch above a node. I sure hope I didn't put too much of a hurting on it. The only way I can trim it is on a ladder to cut back the branches every fall. I decided to shorten the entire tree to make it more manageable for myself. It may not be as pretty next season, but I'm sure it will recover.
Now that the weather has turned colder, the frogs have gone into hibernation. It was time to remove the pump and filter before the water freezes. I had to skim a lot of fallen leaves out of the water too. Now that is one more √ off my list for finalizing everything outside that needs doing.
It's been two weeks since my husband had his knee replaced. I had moved a twin bed into the family room so he would not have to climb stairs every night. There is a bathroom off this room too, which makes life a lot easier for him.
Mika insists on staying close to him, especially when he is in bed resting.
She can't quite figure out what is going on with him and why he can't play with her. He was having a lot of pain on this day, and she insisted on lying alongside his leg.
Between caring for hubby and now walking Mika every day, I'm getting in about 3500 steps or more. My calf muscles and bottoms of my feet are getting a bit overworked compared to a normal day. Here she is being stubborn, and won't turn around to go home. Husband always walks farther with her, and she's like but he always takes me down that road too.
I caught a flock of geese heading north towards Lake Ontario while raking some leaves.
We still have some color on a few different trees, but mainly yellow to brown now as the colors have peaked this week.
One of the yearlings was grazing on the bank near those trees while I was working in the yard. She was not even spooked by my moving about. That shows me how used to people the deer are in suburban areas. I talked to her, and she would just look at me and then graze some more.
That's it for today; the therapist will be here in 20 minutes, and I'm still not dressed, lol.
