It was a busy week having so many people come to visit me for my birthday. Every single day someone popped by, plus they wanted to see my niece. She is more like a daughter to us than a niece and she flew in from South Dakota to celebrate with us.
With the entire family over, I made a large casserole dish of Lasagna which everyone always enjoys.
A dish of Chicken Cutlets and a nice, tossed salad with fresh picked veggies from the garden was a treat.
I made my favorite Coconut Cream Pie for dessert, and my sister-in-law made a Key Lime Pie too. We had fresh cold watermelon on the porch with a Raspberry Lemonade Punch that I threw together. It was so hot, that Lemonade seemed appropriate.
We were all so full of dinner that we hardly ate any watermelon. I ended up giving it to the deer the following day, as my husband and I are not fans.
Painting Shutters
It had been about 8 years or more since the shutters on the house had been painted. They had faded to a dull color and were long overdue. Katie decided that she would do the painting so I would not climb up on the ladder. I had done them the last two times, but she insisted I was not doing it.
All in all, she had to do 9 sets of shutters while my husband stood on the bottom run of the ladder for stability. She did a fantastic job and the house looks refreshed with the new windows, trim, and now fresh paint.
Of course, she did have one mishap! She thought I had put the cover back on the can, but I just set it on top loosely. She shook the can to do the last two sets, and oops, painted onions and stones.
She freaked out! I grabbed Mika before she got into the paint and went to get a hose to water down all that paint. I was laughing so hard and told her at least it wasn't shaken inside the house. She of course was mortified at the mishap.
Pedicure
I am always barefoot in the backyard when gardening, and my feet needed a good soaking in the footbath. I love doing it on the back porch a few times throughout the summer.
Having Katie home was perfect timing since she loves doing pedicures. Here she is painting my toes which is a lot easier for her than for me. lol
Meanwhile, Mika is lying on the lounge chair waiting for her to come and lay in the sun. She was doing her best to get a nice tan while visiting. We both spent a lot of time in the neighbor's pool trying to stay cool.
Mika enjoyed having someone else's lap to take a nappy on. She was Kate's constant shadow the whole week that she was here. Katie was the one that flew her here to surprise my husband after we had lost our other dog. Mika just adores her and actually whimpered when she was packing her suitcase to leave.
This week I have my brother coming up from Virginia for a few days. The celebrating continues since it will be my husband's 80th on the 16th. Oh my! I'm going to need to do some serious dieting. lol
