Lighthouse uses to be a safe guard to disaster at sea. It warns the sailors of dangerous reefs along the coastlines. In the good old days, every lighthouse had to be maintained in person. The keeper had to live out there, more of less for his entire life, if not passed the job to his sons.. It is hard to imagine what life would be like. Living in complete isolation, with limited supplies, it is just an uncomfortable life. Yet he had to make sure that the lighthouse would function even during the most severe storm, otherwise, it would be disaster for those at sea. He had a great job to do. These were the unnamed heroes.
Modern lighthouse has power: electrical and solar power. No keeper need to stay there except for maintenance. Life is much easier. No one has to pay that horrible price for the sake of others.
Our values have changed. We just want to live for ourselves & our family. Who wants to risk his life for little in return?
