My city has been out in the forefront of the homeless situation for years. Mostly due to having a mayor for years who was a minister and worked closely with the homeless community before he became mayor. He's not the mayor anymore because of term limits that were initiated a few years ago. They are putting in permanent bathrooms in the heartside area (section of town known for homelessness) that have special lighting that keeps them from going in them and shooting up. There was quite a backlash this past winter about removing them from their park (heartside park) after some of them put up tents. People were all upset about that but in reality they are about as spoiled as you can get for being homeless. They have a place to go to get warm meals each day, a medical, dental and mental health services that are provided free to them, a coffee house that also provides free laundry services to them and most recently they had a special bus made that goes around the neighborhood that if anyone needs a shower they can go on the bus and get a shower. They also opened up an additional homeless shelter for the winter because of covid, they couldn't provide the same amount of space for them all for distancing reasons. Every winter when there is frigid cold temperatures outside there is an all out effort by city officials, the police, and local ministries to go out and hunt them all down and bring them in for the night.
