I love the ambiance of lit candles. I prefer that over regular lighting. I am much more careful now though. I have tons of wooden candle holders, most are still packed away somewhere from when I moved back here after trying to escape the city. I always said I am not staying but here I am...lol. Anyway, back to the story. I had a couple of wooden candle holders on the wall at the top of the stair landing that I had lit. (This was back when my kids were still toddlers) I was sitting downstairs watching television and had gotten up to go to the bathroom. One of the holders was ablaze around were you stick the candle. I hate to even think about what would have happened if I had fallen asleep or not gotten up when I did since my kids were sleeping upstairs, it'd been a nightmare for sure. These were some wooden holders I had gotten at a second hand store and there was no metal lining inside, it should be illegal to sell candle holders without metal lining. Now I am much more careful, even with the lining I would often place foil inside as a extra precaution if I used them. I am more incline now to buy the glass jars and just keep wooden ones for decorations.

I like candles that have a clean light scent type smell, not to heavy. I can do a pine at Christmas if it isn't to overbearing. Here's a money saving tip though...if you have a Michael's craft store in your area go there after the holidays and you can buy jar candles three for ten bucks. They have one they sell which was called glistening snow, that has a nice scent to it. I always have to smell my candles before buying them....some of those scents are god awful. I usually stock up after the winter holidays but if I run out here's another great money saving tip. I was at Menards one day and they had jar candles on sale, there were three bucks a jar, regular price six bucks, well five something. My first thought was these will probably burn quick but they lasted a long time and the scents are decent. Way better than paying the price for some of the candles you see, like the Yankee candles, twenty five bucks, yeah they smell great and last awhile but I get just as much bang for my buck at Michaels and Menards.
