I was just scrolling through my notifications, minding my business when I saw a transaction alert But hold on, I didn't authorize any payment My heart skipped You know that sudden rush of heat that crawls up your spine when something feels off if you can relate At first I thought maybe it was one of those delayed alerts you know how Nigerian banks can be But checking the timestamp, it was a recent one. Just minutes agothe question that sounds in my head was How? My card was right beside me, my banking app hadn't been touched and I certainly hadn’t clicked on any sketchy links, I started questioning everything Did someone hack me Did I mistakenly approve something and this was the scariest thought was I just scammed without realizing it, I took a deep breath and checked my account details The deduction wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small enough to ignore especially as a student, so I quickly call customer service and after the usual frustrating press 1 for this, press 2 for that, I finally got through, Sir, are you sure you didn’t authorize the transaction, Excuse me? That’s why I’m calling! I wasn’t even sure how to feel at that moment, Annoyed, Panicked or Tired It’s funny how quickly control can slip from your hands in a world where everything is digital, After what felt like forever, they promised to look into it Whether I’d get my money back, I had no idea But one thing was clear I needed to double down on security, Change my password, enable two factor authentication, maybe even sacrifice a goat for extra protection just kidding shaaa.
