Before we get to the goods here is a little context. About a month ago I won $50 in a hockey bet. Now, the bet was actually for a 1oz Mark Messier silver round that was going for $50 on Ebay but I ended up with $50 in my paypal instead, which was fine and I went shopping.
Since this was $50 in funny money I was not looking for low premiums or generic silver weight, I was gettin' silly and I ended up with this sweet round commemorating the last spike put in the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885.
Just look at all those top hats!!
Well, I like trains and I recently visited the site of the Golden spike in Promontory, Utah, USA, where the last spike was driven in the transcontinental railroad, which was awesome!
My oldest is headed to college in British Columbia so I know I will visit this site as well. Here is the reverse of this round.
Pretty sweet, nice toning and a map of Canada, I like it. Let's take a look at the ebay ad real quick.
The size is not mentioned so I assume it's an ounce.
Again, I had $50 funny money to play with so I read the title, looked at the pictures real quick and clicked away.
Fast forward a week or so and I receive the package. Right away and without opening it I can tell it's not a full ounce and my first thought was I got sent the wrong thing. I open it and it is definitely the correct round, so I look closer...
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, it's only 1/2oz! That's why it feels so....light...
And that's how I paid way too much (of someone else's money) for a silver round.
