retribution
i used to cower in your shadow
acting like
you were the light
that sustained me
and nurtured me
but i deceived myself
sincerely
with the help of you
i was the welcome mat
where you planted your feet
every time you deigned to come home
i was the starving dog
you kept chained up
feeding only scraps and bones
i was beneath your notice
unless i did wrong
breaking your rules
proving i could be strong
i shattered your shackles
dissolved your sway over me
i’ll believe in Hell
just to hope you burn
for the sin of desecration
of the temple of me
