Pinochle was the blue collar game of my parents generation it seems. I learned to play about the same age , can't exactly remember the rules but I remember it had its own special deck of cards.
In high school a group us of played a card game called '66" , and it was a game where you had to bid on how many tricks you would win, the highest bidder got to determine what suit was "trump" and you had to play the suit that was led each hand but if you were unsuited you could trump the hand or play an off suit card. If you had the king and queen of trump that was worth forty points if you were able to lead out with the queen on a hand.
My memory is a little sketchy on the entire game but it was fun as hell 45 years ago.
Ah the memories... it is kind of fun.
