Even when I was younger I had a pretty good head attached to my neck and I wanted to keep it that way so bulls were not even under consideration for me. Our oldest boy who is 22 right now said that he wanted to be a bull rider back when he was about 7 or 8 years old. His reasoning was that he would only have to work 8 seconds a day and could make some really good money.
Luckily he never got exposed to "rodeo life" and he went to a high school that didn't have a rodeo team so we dodged that bullet. I told him that bucking horse riders worked the same amount of time a day but in his eyes he believed the women liked bull riders best.
My riding bucking horses ended around the same time as my horseshoeing career, having torn the nerve center in my lower back put an end to all of that stuff. The doc who treated me for that nerve center problem said, "son, you need to find a different line of work and different hobbies. You'll be crippled in no time at all if you continue down the path you are on."
My long legs were bad for horseshoeing but were damn good for riding but I never went back to riding bucking horses simply because I knew that I could really mess myself up for good.
I am sure that old Doyle played a lot stiffer competition than I'm playing poker against but thanks for making me feel good. Team isn't spelled with an "I" so my instincts lead me to do the best I can for the team.
Did you ride motocross or flat track?
