No matter what part of the globe you are sitting at, you must be witnessing climatic change. I remember our school days. We used to stay in school in the months of summer in just fan and a lot of times we friends used to walk back home, almost 2-3 km at 2'o clock in the afternoon. Can you imagine now going out in sun at that hour of the day? Not in my city for sure. Also, schools these days are centrally air-conditioned. Not only it is a way to make more money, but it has also certainly become a need because of the amount of heat outside.
The impact of climate change is severe and we can see the consequences. Ice melts, ocean warming, rising sea levels, raised temperatures, and erratic rains are some of the changes we know. Apart from that, there are also indirect impacts on our health because of the harmful rays which are leading to health issues like never before.
Most of us keep blaming others, the politicians majorly, they are not taking any key steps to keep this in control. But there's a limit to what the Governments can do and as citizens, we also need to do something to prevent the climate from getting worse.
Some of the initiatives we can take are:
Grow more plants - I plant trees on special occasions and also try to keep my little garden green by planting small plants there. It not only helps the environment but also gives a fresh and clean vibe to the house. If all of us do this small contribution, it can add a lot of value because plants are scientifically believed to purify the air.
Less use of Air Conditioners - Where I come from, summers can't do without air conditioners. But there are a few initial months with less humidity wherein the Air Coolers function pretty well. I use them till the weather allows. They go well till the month of May at least. So some fewer CFCs in the air from my home at least.
Reduce the use of Plastics - Plastics are one of the major contributors to environmental degradation. Especially the bad quality ones. Minimize the use of plastics at home including plastic bottles and utensils, plastic equipment, etc. Wherever it can not be avoided like bin bags, use bio-degradable plastics. Use paper bags instead of plastic bags. This small step can bring about a huge change for our welfare.
Climate is also impacted by food chain disturbances. Consumption of meat, chicken, and dairy products negatively impact the food chain and thus causes environmental disturbances. Going vegan might not be a possibility of a lot of us but going vegetarian is surely an option we can consider to save our climate.
Some small steps and initiatives by us can have a positive impact on our environment which will help our future generations. We all want our kids to lead a good and healthy life so we must take some steps to give them that. Only earning money for them and giving them a luxurious life won't be enough because ultimately a bad environment will not let them enjoy it. So act wisely and prevent the climate from degrading further.
