Few days back, I wrote a post where I mentioned how I deal with my house help, how I took her on a trip and her happiness made me feel happy.
And last week, I wrote another post about being kind and how it helps you back, and that kindness bounces back to you one or the other ways.
So apparently, something odd happened to me in the last 2-3 days which shook my beliefs and disappointed me so badly that I am sure I would not be the same person anymore.
My house help who had been working with me for the past 8 months, whom I have been treating like a younger sister and a child, asked for a day's leave. I was ok with that. And the next day when she was supposed to come back, she called me to say that she is going back to her village and asked for her remaining salary.
I was taken aback since I was relying on her for my child's management and household work and I didn't like the idea of leaving without any prior notice. When I told her the same, she said she has to go back because her mother was not well. And just a day back, I heard her talking to her mother, laughing and giggling. When I asked her for details, she had nothing to say.
I was very adamant that you have to come back because at this short notice I can't manage my kid and household work all by myself. But she didn't give a damn and just asked for her money.
What was all the point of me being so kind and gentle to her, not treating her like a house help but a part of the family? She betrayed me badly and didn't consider any of my kind behavior to her.
I am deeply disappointed to see that kindness is expected and happily accepted but when it comes to giving it back, people just turn their faces around. She didn't consider that I have a small one to manage with household work and office work. She just did what suited her the best.
I am trying to find a new house to help myself but this time around, I will not get emotionally connected to her and keep my distance, and also be prepared for anything similar that comes my way.
I have learned my lessons from this incident, it will change my attitude towards my new house help and it will not be good for sure but once you lose your trust, it's very hard to gain it back especially after doing so much for someone.
