Tinderlock is one of the few Splinterlands cards that I believe can easily pass as a legendary card. When I first saw this monster, I really thought that it was of the highest rarity because of the abilities it had. First, let's take a look at Tinderlock's character background.

If you look at Tinderlock's artwork, you can see a steampunk warrior holding a huge flamethrower with one hand, which I assume is powered by magic since he isn't carrying a gas tank on his back. One of the misconceptions I had with Tinderlock was that Tinderlock was his name. But upon reading the lore, I discovered that Tinderlock was the term for a type of fire wardens that were equipped with bloodfire amplifiers. Their squad was created specifically to combat insurgents in the city of Lyshi.

And while Tinderlock's lore doesn't directly explain why he has the Silence ability, I could only presume that the jets of fire coming his blaster makes it too hot for mages to cast their spells properly.

Now if we examine Tinderlock's stats and abilities, you can see that it already has a significant impact even on the bronze league level. Having high health and Last Stand is a good combination for a card. This can be your final trump card when all other monsters have fallen.

On the silver tier, it gets even better with the Silence ability getting unlocked. This is why it is a mainstay in my fire team lineup. At the silver league, many magic monsters still have low magic attack output. Having it further reduced by one damage point is a big deal especially if you have a tank with the Void ability like Grum Flameblade.

The only drawback to Tinderlock's stats is the speed. It's a little on the low side. This is why he is a great partner with Conqueror Jacek which gives two points of speed boost. And since it has a high range damage, especially when last stand is triggered, having the Piercing ability is handy especially when dealing with pesky monsters with armor repair.

The battle I am highlighting is a 37-mana modern gold league match with the new Born Again rule set. You can check the actual battle here. I'd like to take advantage of the resurrection ability so I placed a Venari Marksrat in front of Grum Flameblade while having Tinderlock on the last spot. And I also wanted to dominate in terms of speed so I utilized Clockwork Aide and Countess Sinash on top of Conqueror Jacek's own buff.

My opponent used Legionnaire Alvar as the tank while having two of water splinter's strongest mages, Djinn Oshannus and Runemancer Kye. This is a perfect target for Tinderlock's Silence. When hitting Grum with the Void ability, the total damage will be zero.

Having the drawback of receiving Jacek's Scattershot ability, my range attacks hit the enemy without coordination, targeting Oshannus and Deeplurker. The good thing though is that Marksrat already provided two Martyr buffs to Grum, giving him a total speed of six which is far superior to most of my opponent's monsters.

At round two, my speed buffers, Countess Sinash and Clockwork Aide, are already being harrased by the opponent's Opportunity monsters. They would probably be dead by now if not from the resurrections granted by the rule set.

The end of round five got me into dire straits as my monsters were decimated. Although Silence and Void suppressed magic attacks, the incoming melee damage from Deeplurker and Kulu Mastermind was especially devastating to me. I was down to two monsters, Grum and Tinderlock versus the opponent's five.

Tinderlock finally kicked the bucket at round eight. But by this time, Grum Flameblade has already racked up an enormous amount of Bloodlust triggers thanks to the Born Again rule set.

At the final round, Grum rose to 12 attack, 11 speed, and 20 health. Victory was inevitable and the battle ends at round twelve.
