Lake Meke is not the only place on the list of places to visit in Konya. This lake, which has a national reputation, is under the influx of local and foreign tourists.

Meke, in other words Crater Lake, is one of the natural beauties located in Karapinar district of Konya province. It is formed by an extinct volcano crater filled with water, and there are small islets in the middle. Geopolitical location of Karapınar-Ereğli in the 7 km of the road after the conversion is about 2 kilometers inside. The lake and the primary crater pit are 800 m in length, 500 m in width and 12 m in depth. Over 400 million years ago, as we made in the definition of this crater that formed as a result of an explosion, it became filled with water and became a lake, and after that the second volcano came up with the second explosion 9000 years ago and over time the room became filled with water and turned into a lake.

The altitude of Lake Meke is 981 meters above sea level. Located at the center of the Main Meke and at a height of 50 meters above the water level, the volcano landscape has a depth of 25 meters and the water is quite salty as a taste.

Meke Lake Properties

The volcanic mass structure that constitutes the island in the lake has the feature that it can not absorb water without causing flooding even in very heavy rainfall. This situation is the most important reason why the structure of Meke has not changed for centuries. But recently, the Konya Basin lakes dry up completely because of the irresponsible consumption of groundwater resources, especially in the summer, although it is still rare nature break on migratory birds Turkey is considered as one of our great.

The view from above is seen as a bird's eye view, a small black spot surrounded by clear water. Thanks to this image, the lake is called "Nazar Boncuğu of the World" and caused it to be referred to in this way. However, as a result of the withdrawal of the underground waters of the Konya Oval, there was not much water around the lake and therefore lost its uniform image in the old times.

The latest state of Konya Lake Meke and its latest situation are among the ones that are searched on the internet. There are reports about the dryness of the lake almost every year. Many visitors said they could not find what they had hoped and expressed their readiness to do whatever was necessary. As a result of the decrease of the water of the lake, the lake becomes red with the increase of microorganisms in the water in the summer months and the image is deteriorated from day to day.
