I find most people either love or hate a pug, there is no real middle ground. Picture this: Red and white post van chugging through the windy countryside roads. In the cargo section of the van, neatly wrapped parcels and bags of enveloped letters perform air time stunts when the van hits a pot hole or a consecutive row of road bumps. “Zsshh” the passenger window rolls down and a little flat nosed pug head jams his face in to the oncoming rush of wind. His little face sails flap about like fleshy flags stuck to a flag pole spraying the atmosphere with his viscous spit strings sourced from his unravelled longer than his head tongue.
To some, this sounds gross, to others it just makes you want to take a slow-mo video and grab his little snorty face and squeeze while retorting to some sort of high pitched baby blabber and proceed to tell him what a cutie head he is although he has absolutely no idea what you’re saying and is wondering if this means a schmacko treat is coming. These compact K9s are known to have a curious playful nature and make for the perfect apartment companion, although I’m sure any dog would relish an extended preened paddock to frolic in and bury after dinner mints for a rainy day.
I found some fantastic shots of pugs on unsplash credit here sporting ‘1000 words in a look’ poses and little people clothes. I can’t tell if this pug enjoys being a super model or absolutely despises every second of a forced photo shoot. In any case I had a go at turning him in to a painting, I think he’s lost some of his sparkle from the original photograph, but I managed to capture a bit of his charm and I put my own spin on his beanie:
I always find a painting looks shockingly terrible before it looks any good, take image three and four for example. There are countless times I’ve thrown a piece away because I wasn’t promptly satisfied, but if I’d just stuck with it and put effort and time in to rendering more details it would have finished nicely. There’s a fine balance between knowing when to stick with it and when to give up!
