During World War II, most significant cities in Germany were (partially) bombed to dust and many old and authentic buildings got razed to the ground. However, Heidelberg - just south of Frankfurt am Main - escaped the aerial destruction and thus remains an urban gem today ... !
In June 2016, I decided to pay a visit to this place, a drive of several hours from where I live. The sunny warm weather was ideal for the city trip and I took the oppertunity to take some pics throughout the town. A small selection below:
Pic taken from Heidelberg Castle (Schloss Heidelberg) looking in western direction over the city center. Notice the lack of tall buildings in the area.
View from the same position and in the same direction, albeit zoomed out.
A walk through the cozy and lively center of Heidelberg.
Heidelberg Castle seen from the city center. Picture 1 and 2 were taken from that position.
If you ever visit Frankfurt am Main for either leisure or business and got at least half a day to spare, do not hesitate to visit charming Heidelberg somewhat further South. It is a piece of authentic Germany you can't miss ... !
Seeya!
