Hello! I'm surprised I'm on my third time participating POB's Word of the Week initiated by @calumam. For this week, the word presented is POWER.
When we read the word 'power', what comes into your mind?
Strength? Influence? Superhuman ability? Wealth?
Just like my past two entries, I challenge myself to write a poem regarding the topic. I call my poem, "In Control".
In the middle of the crowd she stood
Biting her lip, she knows she could
Hours spent ruminating in the woods
To get past the falsehoods
In her mind she weighed
The scenarios that had played
Follow the king's favor?
Or be the people's sailor?
A commoner in the kingdom
A world deprived of freedom
The odds she would dare
The consequences is her own to bear
Taking a deep breath, she fixed her armor
Standing in the crowd exuding valor
Eyes filled with fervor
Grasping the sword, she knew she is the savior
Leading the crowd, she executed her plan
She can because she is a woman
Ousting the royal sitting on the throne
The tyranny she would never condone
A commoner once in the corner
In a world that didn't bother
She knew she had to do better
Because within her resides power
The poem tells how a simple woman was able to change their kingdom because of her belief that she has the capabilities do it. I believe each of us have power within us that can change and affect things around us even if we are just a random person in the society. We just have to realize and acknowledge it. We should never underestimate ourselves.
Just because you're an ordinary person doesn't mean you're helpless and cannot bring change. Every action we make and words that escape our lips are capable of shaping and influencing people close to us. And from that small group, it could create ripples until it becomes a huge wave inspiring the whole community, country, or perhaps the entire world.
Within each of us lies a power regardless of who we are. It doesn't have to be super great nor special either.
