It is friday, the day the girls room is being cleaned. It is a joy to be around my chickies for they are so friendly and attached to me.
If I would wanna kill them to put on the BBQ they would willingly come to me to greet me and be cuddled. I could grab them and kill them in an instant without any stress of being hunted. But I would never do that.
I know some people that are trying to be organic homestead people. Self sufficient and keep some animals to be slaughtered. Their animals are wild and not used to humans.
Even if you go in to feed them they ran to all corners of their loft to get away from you.
If I tell them that they have to get their animals get used to them and get to know them it is less stress for the animal just think about the fact if you need a vet. It is a lot easier to have your animals being used to you and come to you than ran after them to catch them. Then people look at me like I am a nutcase. Which is a message to me that they keep animals like a product, with no feeling or emotions and are not qualified to keep animals period.
I always taught my mares to be touched on their tits and touched them in a daily routine. Most mares hate it when you touch their private parts but if a foal is born and is not able to drink on its own you have to milk the mare to keep the foal alive. If you don't want to kicked in your face and don't want to stress out the mare worrying about her newborn you have to make sure the mare is used to be touched by you on her tits so you can milk her in peace if necessary. Most people don't even think about this and if it occurs that you need to milk the mare it is one big drama.
I don't like drama with animals. Even my chickies don't know drama only if I accidentally step on their toes following me to close.
Everybody "helps". And as a reward there some fresh hay for them to dig into.
