Welcome to this week's Look What I Found, my own manual curation post, where I share some of the cool things I've encountered recently. As always, I like to use this post as my entry to the weekly Pay It Forward Curation Contest hosted by @pifc. In the last couple of months this contest took a closer look at some of the Tribes in the Steemsphere, which I loved, as it gave me the chance to immerse myself and get to know the tribes I hadn't known that well. In the case of some tribes, I had been quite familiar with them, so I could present undervalued posts I particularly liked. The Tribes featured in the past are #naturalmedicine, #creativecoin, #marlians, #neoxian, #build-it, #steemleo, and #jahm.
This week @pifc doesn't focus on any particular tribe, so I decided to look at the only one left among my favorite tribes, which we haven't covered so far: Tunes! I tend to use the tunes tag myself in my Mondaymusic series, and sometimes I also listen in to other articles posted under Tunes. They tend to range from YouTube clips by famous and established musicians to steemians who like to post their own music. I don't mind either approach, as long as the tunes are good. So let me present three posts that I thought were worth sharing here:
This one seems to be an original from what I can tell. @stoffwexel does a great job in this lyrical exploration of the situation of the world we find ourselves in. Without being all to specific, he discusses the meaning of existence in this great sounding hip-hop track. Though his words are mostly spoken, he does have a great singing voice, which he knows how to integrate smoothly in his rap, emphasizing the desperation he discusses in his lyrics.
Oh, the song is in German, you're saying? Sure it is, but @stoffwexel provided the translation in English, along with a bit of accompanying text about himself, in both German and English. So all in all, definitely worth checking it out, even if you don't speak any German.
Moving on from Hip-Hop to Reggae, where @hattaarshavin gives us a taste of the reggae version of Indonesia's state song, performed by the group Dildil. The original song Indonesia Pusaka was written by Ismail Marzuki and is apparently "compulsory", bringing to mind well dressed schoolkids singing in unison a tune they've been made to perform a million times, which is supposed to raise their national spirits.
Since I don't know much about Indonesia, I'm quite immune to either the national pride associated with it or criticism thereof. Instead, I get to listen to the tune for what it is: a chilled Reggae beat, the pleasant voice of the vocalist, and a lovely tune, which for lack of better words I'd like to characterize as Pacific salt-water music. Clearly a track I would go back to listening to again... Actually, let me do just that right now!
Oh, do I love me a good fiddle tune! The one presented by @vachemorte is performed by Nate Paine and the late Jon Bekoff... Or at least I first assumed the author of the post simply shared some good tunes by other musicians. But as it turns out, it's much better than that: @vachemorte actually performed the tune himself!
Giving proper credit where it's due, he included the YouTube link of the original track, which sounds quite nice too. But his orchestrated version I'd say I like even more. Upon recording himself @vachemorte contacted Nate Paine, asking him for permission to share this version, to which he agreed. More of a reason to spread the fame of this talented musician. Oh, and if asked, hell's yeah: this old man sure can play the fiddle...
