Now I have two starts for this one, and I gave it a good thought in choosing. I have decided to keep both. A bad start for a serious, not so serious post. But anyways, let me do it.
Scenario 1: I saw a reel on Instagram, a young man shouting these words: "The economy used to be so good back then in the day bro that people used to be able to cheat suppot their second families." No offense to anyone, especially those who have to go through such phase. But man, I find it so true. There used to be good leaks - or the Tea in GenZ's term - about such affairs back then. And we will continue some good yapping from here. But first the second scenario.
Scenario 2: I was having a good chat with this precious soul just today. And this is where I mentioned one famous saying of my professor: "Literature is for the spoiled riches." By literature, he mostly meant the "philosophy." The point he provided is pretty valid, most of the philosphers were broke. Take the infamousKarl Marx as an example. Man will be remembered for a good time, just because gave something undeniable. You may not agree with his ideology, or say that it has died with the USSR; but man really gave a good thought to the society and system. If nothing else, at least "proof of brain" was real for him. But even after this intellectual wealth, he was not able to live according to the standards.
Sad Loif!
"Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor." - James Baldwin.
Now poverty does not simply means lack of money, in this specific scenario. Otherwise it is all about money, all hail the capitalist system.
Poverty in a slightly general sense means poverty of: time, opportunity, security, exposure and the imagination. Because imagination, although free, demands some space, some breathing room to exist. It demands time to go wild, and somewhat comfort, which iss quite rare when your mind is already struggling with worries. One may want to think about philosophy, art, literature, or simply the meaning behind existence, but existence itself is busy right now. Okay, I just recalled the million dollar banana hanging on the wall art. Yes, the tax evasion, but dah, it was a good day.
The Class System i.e. the Exposure.
Talk about Marx and no class system in it? Not possible, it is like a Banana shake without banana. Two people can have the same intellect level, but the poverty limits one of them in at different levels. One, from a steong background, already has great exposure to things. Other one will have to learn and climb the ladder, just to reach the initial level. Who is at fault? Practically speaking - no one. The world has to be this way to keep itself running. But there can be a better system, don't you guys think? And for this better system, I am not going to answer. Let the other - the less exposure one - choose.
Look at me, I just gave the poor one the choice to imagine, to think, to go wild and make the system right.
Because imagination is not an escape from reality after all; maybe it is the first rebel against the reality we have been forced to take upon. Poverty does limit the horizon, but it does not decide what lies beyond it. The real tragedy is to die without trying. So maybe, the world should allow people with one luxury that costs absolutely nothing (actually everything): the freedom to imagine. And if that imagination eventually fixes the system, good. If not, well, at least we gave philosophy another broke man to write about.
