[TV] Hot as Hell - Lucifer

For the sake of my writing style first things first: if you have not watched this show, sorry mate we cannot be on good terms. Just kidding! But man, I literally love this show. Although, I watched it way back in years. And, today, I saw a reel with the most famous dialogue:

"I am a devil of my words." - Lucifer

Ironical, isn't it? Like since childhood, we have been taught to hate the devil, love the angel, and what not. But this devil is a lot different. Should I be ashamed of saying this? If yes, I am guilty of pleasure from a devil. Now do not get it wrong, lol.

Well I do not want you guys to listen to my non-stop yapping, so here to the actual point.

The Story and All

Although, I am not a big fan of reviewing with "the story" only, but this one really deserves a big writing. Because, it has total six-seasons.

The story starts with our protagonist - Lucifer Morningstar the Devil himself - who got bored of Hell, and has moved to Los Angeles. Good thing? I mean who does not love Los Angeles? So he is here, and opens up a nightclub, and just like a good devil starts helping the police solve murders.

Somehow, it works.

The best thing about him is: he never lies.

Now do not become a fan right now. As he owns a nightclubs, and spends his days enjoying wine, women, music and the general freedom of not having to answer to anyone. After all, you have been punishing the souls in Hell, so this is a valid response.

But the twist unfolds, a murder takes place outside Lux - Lucifer's club. This brings him into contact with LAPD detective, the female lead: Chloe Decker.

Before moving any forward, our Devil has this unusual power: he can make people reveal their deepest desires. However, this trick does not work on Chloe.

She is under the protection of plot.

This plot thing is something decided by the God. But, I will save this part for a while, because it is no fun to discuss the main thing right in the start. This thing interests Lucifer, more like a curiosity for him.

So, he becomes a partner with Chloe. He starts assisting Chloe with investigations, using his ability to uncover people's desires and his experience from hell comes in handy. As he knows, how to treat a criminal.

At first, it does seem like a usual every week show, where detectives are solving murder cases. But the murders are eventually just the surface part.

The deeper stuff is Lucifer's real story. A being who has spent eternity believing that he was created to be evil, punished for rebelling against his Father i.e. God, and condemned to play role everyone expects him to play. So, his greatest enemy is he, him, and himself.

Enough of deep talks

Along with his angelic brother, there is this character: Dan Espinoza. He is basically Chloe's ex-husband and Lucifer's favorite punching bag. Punching bag? Yes kind of, as Lucifer loves to target him with his immature jokes. Moreover, how can I forget Ella Lopez, the forensic scientist whose cheerful personality hides her own complicated relationship with faith and darkness.

The Devil as a Psychatrist

So this is a spoiler. One of the best thing, for me is this part. The Devil, who once punished souls in Hell, eventually becomes the one helping them escape it. Dr. Linda Martin - the psychatrist, who spent years helping Lucifer understand himself through therapy, becomes an important part of his journey.

Free Will

This is the biggest and most important theme of the plot, mine favorite as well. At one stage, the plot exposes that God created Chloe just for Lucifer. So, it came as a surprise for both character.

For Lucifer, the one who is fighting against his Father's control; for Chloe, she looses her selfness.

Intially, Lucifer starts seeing Chloe as another piece in his Father's game. A way of controlling him while making him believe that he is exercising free will. And imagine about Chloe's inner feelings, as if she was created merely as a gift, for just another being.

Final Take

I do agree that there are many loops in the series, especially the over-stretching of seasons for no reason. Moreover, the season starts really good, but the end it turns somewhat into a family show. But, it is definitely a must watch, if you ask me. And all those reasons have been mentioned above.
