Fall is coming. I have several bright orange pumpkins. Welcome to my Starting a garden blog post #25 🌻🙂. We are approaching time for ending my garden posts 😉 but I am going to stick with "Starting my garden" until the end of my first season. Straight to the garden this week.
The butternut squash have done pretty well and we harvested a couple last week 😋 What's more fall than oven roasted butternut squash?
The harvests have been plentiful. This is todays haul - Sunday 9/11.
Wednesday's harvest. You can see we are getting lots of tomatoes, some green beans, a few peppers, plus the zuchinni and cucumbers are still finishing up.
Last Sunday's harvest. We always have a mason jar of grape and cherry tomatoes sitting out for snacking.
Plus we are making soup, salsa, and tomato bread to use up the tomatoes. Two varieties of tomato bread even 🙄 One bread with yeast and just tomatoes which is great for grilled cheese sandwiches. The second is a quick bread with more spices and some cheese. Very tasty. Almost a meal by itself.
Looking forward to brussel sprouts. They will be one of the last things we harvest. I'm told that they should be kept in garden until first frost.

Here's the problem we are fighting right now 🙁 Mildew on the leaves. Rain and humidity are causing mildew. We are removing it where we can.

The pumpkins are still trying but we have cut back a lot of leaves with mildew.
Some of our pumpkins start out solid green and others start out with stripes 🤷♂️ They are all from the same seeds 🤔
The peppers seem the most healthy.

Red, orange and green peppers. These are going into salsa, soups, and on salads.
We have a few onions that we raised from seeds. Unfortunately, they were in a crowded bed and aren't get a lot of sunlight. We have been thinning them some and eating them as green onions. Hopefully we will have a few nice bulbs.
This is the pepper and tomato bed. Truthfully we have tomatoes in lots of places 😊

Plus lots of cherry. These are growing in pots and tied to the fence for support.
Here's a view looking up through the crazy tomato plants. We planted them much too close. That's an important lesson we learned this year. Not only are they hard to care for and harvest but they are competing with each other for water and sunlight.
The end of summer will be sad for the garden but there are a lot of good days left. Get out there and enjoy them 👍 Here is Lake Dunmore last night 🤩
