This is the iconic Surge of Hope monument built in my own hometown right in the main road Junction of Barangay Calogcog Tanauan, Leyte.
This landmark was constructed 4 years ago in honor of the souls taken by one of the deadliest wrath of mother nature- Super Typhoon Haiyan.
In the dawn of Super Typhoon Haiyan a mass grave memorial was held, in here lies the remains of more than 200 Tanauananos whose lives we will forever remember.
The main structures are made up of two spiral curves measuring the estimated height of the storm surge that battered our town. In between the the two curves is a mass of figures releasing a flock of birds to the sky promising the coming of a new and better Tanauan. The names of the fatalities are engraved in a glass panel mounted in an artificial waterfalls.
This monument brings me so much pride. As a native from Tanauan, I believe The Surge of Hope highlights the Tanauananons' resilence and bayanihan that justifies its First Class Municipality distinction!
