STEMsocial Distilled - It is all about love

It is a week of love for those that love to celebrate Valentine, but a week of new stem contents for the stem content consumers, creators, and enthusiasts alike. Welcome to another edition of the STEMsocial distilled. We have entered the laboratory, gathered all the necessary apparatus, carried out the distillation, and we are here presenting the refined content of all the content posted between 11/02 and 18/02 in the Gregorian year of 2022. Today's edition was put together by @gentleshaid.

The STEMsocial distilled is a weekly publication. However,, ff you are reading this for the first time and wondering what STEMsocial is all about, feel free to learn more here. The rules on the posts to feature were a bit tweaked for this week. Specifically, the two-weeks cool down period in-between featuring for authors was reduced to just a week. This was done in order to garner the required number of qualified posts to be featured for this week's edition. Feel free to engage and support the authors as they are highlighted below.

Reproductive habits in snakes.

At the top of our selections for this week is a post seeking to dispel some misconceptions about the reproductive habits of snakes. The post was made by no one other than my humble self and was inspired by images of a snake that was killed and found to harbour multiple babies in its belly. The initial misconception is that snakes only reproduce by laying eggs. Rightly so, the post was able to accrue up to 16 comments as at the time of writing this distilled.

An Alphabet of the Universe? - The Dimensionless Constants

Following the snake post above bumper to fender in terms of the number of comments ammassed is this post from one of the few physicists we currently have writing in the community. It is a rather interesting, simple and educational piece on how tweaking some of the constants of the universe can result in another (chaotic) universe entirely. The post in itself might not make a lot of sense to those without physics background, but the simple tone it was written makes for an interesting read.

The Hudson River School, and My Collage for LMAC #112

The recemtly concluded contest that brought STEMsocial and LMAC community into collaboration effectively showed that there is a bridge between art and science. This is exactly what was demonstrated by

@agmoore in this post as the original image evoked old memories of her growing up in the Appalachian Mountain Range which has some unique features in its geography. Deservedly, the post raked up 12 unique comments.

Is there a possibility of similar blood groups Cross-reacting to cause post transfusion reactions?

Coming 4th in this week's distilled is a medical post bordering around blood transfusion. To a layman, blood transfusion is just about testing blood samples of the donor against that of the recipient and once they match, they are good to go. However in actual fact, a lot of things go on behind the scene while testing. The post by Cyprianj explained one of the things that could go wrong with blood transfusion that many may not have knowledge of.

Behind the Scenes: Dark Matter Collage

Here is a post by a debutant author in the distilled rounding up our selections for this week. It bothers around the collaborative contest between STEMsocial and LMAC community. A huge efforts went behind the scene before some of the collages published by authors in response to the contest became reality. The author shared the processes that led to her own collage - an interesting build-up.
