These days a whole lot of people lean towards or heavily on E-books because of the ease and conveniences and accessibility but it hasn't yet overpowered the effects of paperbacks and hardcovers and basically printed books in general.
As an author, it's quite easy and less expensive to publish an Ebook compared to publishing printed books. It's easy to run the whole affair solo without the need of any of the added measures that are usually taken for printed materials, like a publishing firm for instance. Many electronic books these days are being self-published by a lot of authors and are also being sold and bought, all online.
I'm really grateful to technology for that because it affords me an opportunity to get my books out there with a larger target audience because it's online and a lot of individuals are always online which will make my book easily accessible.
On the other hand, as a reader, I would pick paperbacks and hardcovers and printed materials, basically anything printed on paper any day.
Why?
Mostly because I love the feeling of holding a book in my hands, having to flip to the next page and the thrill that comes with reading a printed book.
I have tried E-books and I do have a few of them because of one reason or the other but over time I realized that I couldn't adapt fully to the concept of electronic books and reading online constantly.
I already spend too much time on my devices these days and I'd gladly accept whatever it is that'd take me away from my devices for a while, long enough for me to recuperate because it can be quite tasking.
Books are my go-to whenever I want to chill or want to clear my head, I go through my treasure of paperbacks and fish out anyone that calls to me and I go on the adventure of a lifetime away from my phone, the internet for a while. By the time I am done with reading a printed book, I usually feel better and relieved because it's said that books have a way of speaking to the soul and healing it, I guess it's true.
I don't mind the weight of books in my bag, though I don't go about hauling books with me (there's only so much I can carry), I take the ones I need and I am not bothered at all by the weight of the books unless it's a really big book, one I wouldn't even think of carrying in the first instance. Plus, my bag usually feels empty without at least one book in it, it's a habit now.
Staring too long at the screen of my phone, reading the words on the screen sometimes leaves me with a headache which usually ends up ruining the fun of reading for me because I would lose interest so as not to get a migraine the next time and as a result I have avoided getting more Ebooks with a few exceptions, those that are really important and can't be found in bookshops either because they weren't printed in paperbacks or it's out of stock.
Sometimes I'd feel unusually sleepy and end up sleeping, which doesn't happen when I read a paperback.
I try everyday to get more paperbacks to add to my collection of books and I don't think I'll get tired of getting new books anytime soon because it means I have a thousand reasons to be away from my phone for a number of hours or maybe the whole day. It depends on how immersed I am in a book.
Books are my best buddies and have been for a very long time and this contest has made me realize just how much time I haven't been giving to my books lately, a lot of things have been happening. All that will be fixed as soon as possible. :)
a book a day keeps boredom away..
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Pick up a book whenever the need arises, it helps.
